Do you ever download movies?
 

Downloading music is, of course, extremely popular and I was wondering about this. I've downloaded the occasional movie myself, usually something pretty old and hard-to-find and possibly in the public domain anyway (M/Rashomon).

I used to be worse about it when I was first getting into "classic cinema" and checking out different sorts of movies. I ended up deleting them and buying most of the ones I liked anyway.

I downloaded one once and that was that. I just love having the physical official media displayed in my room. It looks better and it also sounds better as well.

I did once. The film bombed and the director blamed people like me. Sorry. :|

All the time. Public domain movies only though. I got a collections of good movies such as Rashomon, My Man Godfrey, Detour to lesser known movie and even obscure one.

Also I got a collection of vintage documentaries/promotional film that went public domain. It's not for everybody, but I got too much free time. :shrug:

No. I'm also the last person on Earth who doesn't DL Music. :lol:

I downloaded a "workprint" of a recent horror movie and was disappointed (both in the audio/visual quality and in the quality of the filmmaking). That was my first and probably last venture into downloading films. I'll certainly not pay 15-20 dollars to download a film on itunes that I could buy on dvd.

I wanted to answer No, Never, but the only time I did it was when there was a great quality version of Revenge of the Sith floating around a few days after it's premiere. Of course I still saw it multiple times at the theater and bought it the day it came out. I just needed some methadone until my heroin was available. :)

Other than that I don't do music or movies since the quality is shit. Not one movie download would look good on my home theater, and any mp3's converted to CD audio sound shitty cranked in my car. And even if the quality was there I doubt I'd do it unless it was on something I was going to rent first, and if I liked it enough I['d buy it anyway.

I didn't even know you could "legally" (I assume?) download movies on iTunes, but I was more referring to downloading movies illegally for free. Yes, the quality's not there, but it's free so you get what you pay for.

I downloaded Signs and skipped it in the theatre. I felt guilty about it because I plan on making a career in the entertainment industry.

I've only downloaded movies after I have seen them in the theatre and if there is something I did not understand or missed during my first viewing. Most of them are crap recordings so I watch what I need to and then delete them, I figure I watch them in the movie theatre and eventually buy them on DVD so I don't see any issues with it.

I've downloaded my fair share, but I also turn around and buy a lot of them on DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray. Same goes for TV shows. So truthfully the studios have made a lot of money off of me thanks to "illegal" downloading.

I've downloaded a lot of pr0n, and I've tried out Netflix's "Watch it Now" features, although the movie selection there is pretty weak so far.

^Yeah, funkyryno, I've also been taking advantage of Netflix's "watch it now" recently. Poor selection in general but some decent finds I'd never seen before (Dial M for Murder, Papillon, Tootsie, Dirty Dozen, Bonnie and Clyde, Network, Rebel Without a Cause, The Asphalt Jungle, etc.)

I'll second this. I don't download a lot of films, but when they're only released in a small number of theaters and have zero chance of ever seeing a theatrical appearance in my general area (and I routinely have to travel 100+ miles to see interesting movies, both indies and major studio releases) it doesn't bother me a bit. Obviously I'd prefer to see them in a real theater setting, but it simply isn't an option much of the time. And yes, I gladly buy, or at the very least rent, the DVDs of ones I enjoy. Studios are most definitely NOT losing money due to me specifically. Like Doughboy, they're seeing more and more of my money because of downloading.

My brother downloaded Hot Fuzz, though. He was craving to see it (he's a huge Simon Pegg fan), and they weren't playing it anywhere in our area.

I have like here and there, I used to "rent and burn" but I don't have the DVD drive anymore and I actually prefer to have the DVD with the real cover art and what not. So not really a whole lot anymore

<b>M</b> and <b>Rashomon</b> aren't in the public domain, and both have widely available DVDs.

I don't download movies - it would take too long and if I like it well enough I'll just buy it or Netflix it. I doubt most of the movies I like could be readily downloaded anyway.

I downloaded Sicko when I heard Moore put that out on Bittorrent. And I downloaed the Hebrew dubs of Cars and Happy Feet.

I'll admit I do download movies, I live way way out in the countryside and to be honest the nearest cinema is a 2 hr drive and there's just some movies I really want to see! It's a terrible excuse I know but I do usually end up buying 90% of them anyway.
