Brad Pitt takes a Bullitt
 

A remake of Bullitt is apparently on the way, with our favorite soap-maker as the lead.

Although the following excerpt from the article makes me think that this remake may still be a long way off:

I like Pitt, but Bullit doesn't need a remake. Still, since Hollywood has run out of ideas, they'll probably make it, but it will end up Shia Labouf as the lead and directed by McG.

Hopefully they make it more exciting than the original Bullitt - which, I know I am in the minority... but I thought the whole movie was boring, up to and including the much over-hyped car chase.

Eh...I'll wait to see a trailer before I pass judgement. Never know, could be awesome.

Brad Pitt is a good choice for a Steve McQueen role, and Bullitt wasn't really that good of a movie in the first place.

You do realize Hollywood has remade movies since the early days of cinema, right?

Since Pitt both looks the part and is a much better actor than McQueen, this definitely has potential.

Total agreement. This movie was a major letdown when I saw it. Hopefully, in the remake they'll do more than 30 mph during the car chase.

Yea, Bullitt doesn't need a remake. I'm of the opinion that if they get the right cast and crew this could be respectful to the original but I still don't even see the need for it.

yeah I'm a McQueen fan but Bullitt was very dissapointinf film. McQ, Dirty Harry, The Getaway were all much better.
Hopefully they make this version compelling and Im sure Pitt wil do it justice.

Yeah, I know, but its gotten worse throught the years. See how many remakes have been made since 2000 (many of those are really, really bad) and you will see what I meant in my previous post.

The car chase was good and is a nice palata-cleanser after seeing a "modern" car chase.

But you're right, the movie is very, very boring.

When that chase was over I distinctly remember thinking "That's it?!?" I had heard so much about this "awesome car chase" that I imagined it to be very exciting... I was so dissappointed.

I actually like the very restrained pace of the movie. It's not something I watch a lot, but it makes for a different experience. I suppose you could say it's a more realistic cop movie.

As long as any director with the last name of either Ratner, Bay, or Story isn't directing, we're at least spared. After Zodiac, it might be cool to see David Fincher tackle this.

It's more of a police procedural than an "action" movie- slow and methodical which makes it more a good deal more realistic than something like Bad Boys. For that reason I love it- though some of the elements that were more groundbreaking at the time (like the gorgeous girlfriend giving the hero with the honourable profession grief and equating the job to working in a sewer) come across a bit arch and dated today.

I find the pace refreshing with just about everything else today having the dial set at 11 from from frame one. Thats the reason I love Casino Royale too.

And Steve McQueen exuded cool- Brad Pitt has to work at it and the labour shows most times.

It was weird, the first time I saw it, on DVD, I thought it was great. Then, when I saw it in theaters during the Hot Fuzz-tival I couldn't understand why I didn't like it at all. In either case, Bullitt may be a classic, I suppose, but it's not a certain kind of classic where if they change things it will ruin it. So I don't have a problem, as long as, as someone said, they do real car stunts.

I'm ready to see a couple of these get demolished but only if it's real. :)

Brad Pitt??!!??

Oh, COME ON!!! Once you've seen Brad Pitt in True Romance you can never watch the guy in a straight role again and take him completely seriously. You expect him to light one up because he always talks just a little like that stoner dude.

I just can't buy him in the role - not even a little.

And I don't think he can act his way out of a paper bag. McQueen was cool, and a good actor. I'm not totally opposed to a remake (IF it's done well), but having Pitt in the lead is a deal breaker for me.

Pitt is a better actor than McQueen, and as someone else said, Bullitt wasn't ever that good of a movie, making it a perfect candidate for a remake, as they can now change the things that made the original not so great.

You've never seen Se7en, I take it.

I too was pretty disappointed when I finally got around to watching Bullitt after all the hype I'd hear about it (thought it paled in comparison to other similar-ish loose-cannon cop movies, namely Dirty Harry and The French Connection).

I wonder if this remake will have a straight modern feel or if they'll try to incorporate a retro feel.
