Then you won't like this...

Just saw The Game today for the first time ever.

1st 2 hours ----> Thrilling, riveting, etc.
Last 8 minutes -> So terrible, it ruined the entire movie!

LOL. Really? Or was that just for Fincher Fan's benefit?

Definitely there with Fight Club. The first act is witty, sharp, and well-paced. The second act is filled with dark humor and gut-wrenching comedy. The third act, which happens right after the Macintosh store being destroyed, was confusing and boring.

Pulling his leg.

Actually, this criticism over the last act in Fight Club is quiet a surprise for me and rather unheard of. I thought the whole 'terrorist' and 'corporation' play was well paced and tied together with the film because Edward Norton's character resists and at the end rejects the whole notion. Hence it was a nice and not too-cliche, plus we get to see one of the coolest headshots in movies.

The first forty-five or fifty minutes of Super Troopers was brilliant, but it couldn't maintain the pace throughout the last half.

I agree with fumanstan about Bad Boys 2. The first half was fantastic, but the second half seemed to drag on and never end.

Fight Club is the obvious answer.

I agree. I enjoy the Vietnam scenes in FMJ. I never got that criticism nor did I ever think that the boot camp scenes in FMJ were all that great.

You're not the only one. I love FMJ in it's entirety. In fact I find the second half as compelling if not more so than the first half. The movie is nearly perfect in my eyes.

Blow. The first half was Boogie Nights part 2, fuckin' rockin'. The second half, regardless of truth and balance, was slower and depressing.

I personally think Full Metal Jacket is a fine film (yes, in all its "parts"), but I don't completely buy into the argument that films can't be split into parts. I don't see why one can't say that the beginning of a film is more engaging than its ending, or vice versa.

HEATHERS

I still love the movie, but I thought that it stumbled a bit right after the murder of the two football players. In particular, the scene where Christian Slater lights up his cigarette by Winona Ryder's burnt palm was too cartoony.

Honestly I would say most movies fall into this category. Very few movies can keep the intensity up through the middle and end of a film and I would say there's only a small handful that really improve in the second half. Most of these movies are ones that dump you right into the sequel: Kill BIll V1, Dead Man's Chest, Empire Strikes Back, etc.

1408. Started out very strong and then just lost itself in the end. It became a mess that didn't know which direction to go. However John Cusack still gave a fantastic performance.

It's too bad that Unbreakable didn't carry it's ending into a sequel, i felt like I got stopped short.

Unfortunately it's pretty common for me to enjoy the first half a movie much more than the 2nd half, so there would be too many for me to list.

1408 does definitely stand out among recent movies though.

I don't blame Fincher for the Third Act in Fight Club. Although I haven't read it, I understand that the film pretty closely follows the book. If anyone's to blame I'd say it's Chuck Palahniuk. I think the first 2/3 of the film are great but everything from
Spoiler:
Project Mayhem to the split personality
bothers me.
