New list is lame.

Spiral Staircase 06-20-07 09:56 PM

I greatly prefer the new list if only for the climbs made by Vertigo, The Searchers, City Lights, and The General.

The most questionable addition to the list: Sophie's Choice.

Arpeggi 06-20-07 09:57 PM

Climbs, yes. but what about The Third Man getting bumped off the list?!

MechanicalMan 06-20-07 10:01 PM

 Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? added
 City Lights moving to #11

:thmbsdwn: a musical in the top 5
:thmbsdwn: The Third Man snubbed (or no longer American enough?)
:thmbsdwn: Titanic and The Sixth Sense added

Another shitty list. I do like the top three, though, and I don't really care what order they're in.

Zodiac_Speaking 06-20-07 10:02 PM

I don't know if I can take a list seriously when The Third Man is not on there but LotR is.

I agree with some and like some of the newer titles but Ben-Hur knocked off!!!!! WTF!

This list might not be my standard anymore like the last list was.

Fincher Fan 06-20-07 10:04 PM

The Sixth Sense is a horrible choice. It's a great example of the power of editing but it only works once.

wm lopez 06-20-07 10:04 PM

How is it that TITANIC 1997 is in now, but not in 1997?
Was this new list to save face about not including the #1 box-office movie of all-time?

Hammer99 06-20-07 10:08 PM

Schindler's List still isn't Top 10 material. :thmbsdwn:

beavis69 06-20-07 10:10 PM

I dont like any of the "newer" movie additions, especially LOTR which i still dont find the appeal in. So many other great newer movies that could have been included and wasnt. Other than that the list is pretty good. Love the addition of Do the Right Thing but wish The Shining had made the list, especially since its lightyears better than Sixth Sense.

I believe it was too recent to be eligible for the list last time.

Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. 06-20-07 10:12 PM

LOTR shouldn't be on there, it's just about a bunch of midgets running around a forest.

PopcornTreeCt 06-20-07 10:12 PM

I have to say I'm disappointed with some of the newer films they chose. I like that some classic films made some debuts but I'm scratching my head at what they kept on the list. How do you kick out Giant and The Third Man but keep Easy Rider, Forrest Gump, and M*A*S*H?

I love seeing Raging Bull so high. I don't like seeing Schindler's List do better.

I wonder if DVDs had anything to do with this list. Sullivan's Travels, Sunrise and Spartacus get their do while The African Queen takes a huge freefall.

Josh H 06-20-07 10:12 PM

What strikes me as odd is how many old movies are new to the list, replacing other classic movies.

It's not like the new classics added got any better since the last list, nor the ones that go the boot any worse.

I just about vomited when I saw The Sixth Sense on the show. (I began to throw up when they said "a horror film from the last decade" - I knew what it was even though TSS is not a horror film.) I will never understand the popularity of that film. To me, it's the only one on the list that really sticks out like a sore thumb. I may not agree with the placement of other films on the list, but I hate to think that L.A. Confidential got left out in favor of this.

However, the jumps made by The Searchers and City Lights almost make up for it. Almost.

Did anyone else think "oh shit" when they said a film about gladiators was coming up, and then was relieved when it turned out to be Spartacus?

Arpeggi 06-20-07 10:17 PM

No because Spartacus is shit.

grip 06-20-07 10:17 PM

WTF, Ben Hur, one of the finest movies EVER is 100 (-28)?!?!?

I call BULLSHIT!

Arpeggi 06-20-07 10:18 PM

89. Sixth Sense
100. Ben Hur

Ben Hur got owned.

I think i need to start my pirate website...

To provide myself the proper outlet to keep me off of the Xanax.

Merkin Muffley 06-20-07 10:28 PM

Happiest moment:
Seeing Nashville debut at #59! It should be higher, but hey, at least it made it this time.

Saddest moment:
That elf movie.

Angriest moment:
When I realized there would be no The Manchurian Candidate.

Most confused moment:
The General? At #18? Really? I realize no Keaton was a big oversight last time...but #18?

Most eye-rolling moment:
Swapping The Birth of a Nation for the more politically correct Intolerance. Pathetic.

Most hilarious moment:
Halle Berry saying she was from a small town in Cleveland.

Other happy moments:
All the President’s Men
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
It's a Wonderful Life
dropping

Other sad moments:
No The Third Man
No The Shining
No All Quiet on the Western Front
Seeing the craptacular Forrest Gump still on the list
