Everyone should at least see one movie at the Cinerama, try it if you can. Every city has a metroplex like the AMC pacific place (It is nice because there are soem decent places to eat in there)

Well sorry I should have pointed out that for certain movies it is a rip-off and for others it is not.

I agree. Amazing film. You walk out of the theater elated.

And yet wistful as well, because the ending leaves no room for doubt that the Toy Story is over.

Re: Toy Story 3

I must admit, while I like the whole 3D craze and everything, even if Toy Story 3 wasn't released in 3D, it wouldn't have made any difference. However some of the film's set pieces, the opening and the frenetic ending were meant to be seen on the largest screen possible -
Spoiler:
the end scene where the toys are all about to be sucked into the fire chasm - was spine tingling and with the sound kicking in all around you, it's a downright nail biting

The reveal of the giant robo 'Hammy' in the sky - was a trip and a half - I was rolling in laughter.

It's very odd, that Dolby really isn't going all out in it's advertising of the 7.1 release of the film, there is no indication on part of Dolby or the theatres themselves in the Washington Post as to who made the upgrade - are any other city papers denoting this??

Re: Toy Story 3

indiana jones 4 made a boat load of money and had similar problems as toy 3, both are just watered down remakes of the others, only with more mold and dust. a fresher idea would have been, if they were already in the attic in the beginning, and it was about how they coped with it, and learn to be self sufficient, without a boy to play with them. or something. so many other angles could have been taken, or lessons explored, but they just remade toy story 2

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. The theater I saw it in was packed. And there were quite a few people lined up to get into the next one.

Re: Toy Story 3

Was it shot in 3-D or was the 3-D added in post?

Of the reviews I've read, nobody's talking about the 3-D, except for the New York Post's Lou Lumenick who dismisses the 3-D as "pointless" in one line.

Re: Toy Story 3

Isn't the 3D effect in all animated films added in post just because of the mere fact that they are animated in the first place?

Re: Toy Story 3

The 3D added depth but it wasn't a big "Wow! Look at this!" kind of effect.

.....it's 3D regardless. It's made on a digital plane. From there it's just added in post...that's how all Animated 3D movies are made, Ash. It can't be "shot" in 3D. It's MADE in 3D....wtf are you talking about?

Re: Toy Story 3

'Coraline' stop motion animation was shot in stereoptican (3D) still camera capture.

Re: Toy Story 3

Yeah but it's not a 3D animated film. Coraline...That's shot on a physical plane. It's not made in 3D you know..digital art and whatnot.

Re: Toy Story 3

Well, it happened. That asshole Armond White hated it. And Cole Smithey gave it a C+ (why does that count as "rotten"?) with the following:

"Once you get past paying the inflated price for an animated "3-D" movie where nothing floats in front of your eyes as with quality 3-D films, the story that unfolds is more sad than joyful."

what the hell are you smoking? Coraline is an animated film - not CGI (well a little bit of it was) and it was filmed with a camera shooting the 3D effect in camera on the set - how that doesn't constitute 3D filming to you is just baffling.

Re: Toy Story 3

I'm talking about 3D in the sense of animation aka CG animated feature. Coraline wasn't CG, that had to be shot. Toy Story isn't shot on film. It's made on a computer. I mean 3D in that digital animation sense.

Re: Toy Story 3

Both Coraline and Toy Story are animated, but one is stop motion animation and the other is CGI. With stop motion, since you have physical objects, you have to shoot it in 3D. For CGI films, the elements are rendered in 3D, not shot with a camera.

I just wanted you to clarify that for the masses, because alot of folk throw around that overall 'animation' term around like it's supposed to encompass all 'animated' film when the genre itself utilized many techniques. Someone at the DC screening of 'Waking Sleeping Beauty' made that comment/mistake and I was quick to ask a question/rectify that overall blanket generalization - that just irks me to no avail, when the idea and notion that CGI animated films are in some way superior to standard 2D cel/stop motion animated films.

sorry there, but I had to rant and vent for a sec.
