Thomas Hayden Church - why bulk up for spiderman-3 ?
Thomas Hayden Church was told to bulk up for spiderman-3 (I think they wanted him to bulk up even more than he did). Did him being buff add anything to the movie ? His fights with spidey were as sandman, I so do not see the value in him bulked up.

No actor worth his salt will take a roll like that and NOT bulk up. The exception would be a roll that calls for them to lose weight or be skinny.

I can see hitting the gym hard for a couple months to get some size for the character, but they're claiming he bulked up for 16 months before filming. That's absurd for a role that really amounted to very little in the overall scope of a crowded film.
Brock need to be buffer. He was in the comics and he should have been to appear MORE menacing than Spidey in the film, not as an equal.

Still, in 16 months he could have packed on a lot more. I'm assuming the studio pays for a personal trainer, no? That being said, Church may've been working on something else in the meantime.

Plus most convics bulk up in Prison don't they? He was fresh out of Prison(escaped) and when he was mutated his physical self remained the same. His body, in his human form, was locked into his current bulk/size.

His account of his regimen is the most realialistic I've seen - no cardio, meals immediately before and after lifting.
