Is it just me or are the "heaven" effects not nearly as unique or cool as the ones from What Dreams May Come? They look almost too crisp and polished.

He's only directing two of those, and TinTin and the Hobbit arn't coming out this decade. So really, this is it from him for this decade. The first TinTin isn't coming out this decade and Jackson's only directing the second one....
Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Lord of the Ring: Return of the King
King Kong
The Lovely Bones
Not bad.

this is going to be good. love the visuals, blows away What Dreams May Come.
Glad Michael Imperiolli is getting some good roles. He fucking rocks. I also love Mark Wahlberg, but not so much in dramatic roles, hope this will change.
My mother will love this movie.

That 1/15/10 date may be the wide release date. I think its going to open in limited release in December to qualify for the Oscars.

Well like a previous poster said, it's possible that 1/15/10 is for the full release, but your city might possibly get it during its limited release before Christmas. I guess we'll have to wait and see. The delay info was on Box Office Mojo, which is generally very accurate about this stuff, but I haven't seen the delay mentioned elsewhere.

That has to be what it is. If they really needed to delay it past awards eligibility, they'd move it to February or March (like Shutter Island). Hardly anything good gets released in January.

I just checked the IMDB page and its says limited release will be on December 11, then everywhere else January 15.

I have to say that while I think it sucks as I don't live in a major area, I totally understand what they are doing and think it is best for a movie of this nature. This is the kind of movie that needs to get award nominations and critical praise first before it can be released in a major sense. I have a feeling if this were to hit nationwide on the 11th it would fade pretty fast as people flock to family films and because it fizzled at the B.O., it wouldn't get much consideration.

I've come to terms with the fact that my opinion of Peter Jackson, and of his films to date, is a minority one; his work simply doesn't speak to me, and nothing about The Lovely Bones has changed my mind (as much as I would have liked it to). And I could very well be wrong about this, but I have a feeling that once his legions of fanboys get a look at it, they'll see that while he may be their guy for telling stories about wizards and hobbits and giant apes, he comes up short when dealing with real people and real emotions.
And to the reviewers last point, despite the cheap shot tone of it, 'Heavenly Creatures' dealt wonderfully with real people and real emotions, I thought.

I'm still going to check it out if it shows in a theater near me. I didn't like any of the LOTR movies. King Kong was alright...but it was just...there. This looks really though.
