I was pleasantly surprised to see that this moviee had more of an artistic/creative range expressed in this film, more than the previous two movies. It's as if the producers knew that this film would make a billion dollars anyway, so they gave all the artistic freedom to Gore Verbinski as much as he wanted. And surprisingly, the director seems to be inspired from Terry Gilliam.
1. Multiple Jack Sparrow gag and many grotesque/funny side characters - totally Gilliam.
2. Arrival into Davey Jones Locker, when the boat seemed to be floating in space - straight out of Adventures of Baron Manchausan
3. Departure out of Davey Jones Locker, when they have to turn the boat upside down - straight out of Time Bandits
4. Boat in the middle of a desert, pulled by crabs - reminded me of Gilliam and Time Bandits again
5. Evil but civilized British characters, surrounded by wacky characters - reminded me of Time Bandits and Manchausen and Brazil.
These are just just a bunch of examples which reminded me of Terry Gilliam, and also why I enjoyed this movie so much (and I didn't like the previous ones that much).
PIRATES 3 is as if Terry Gilliam put his "hatred-of-Hollywood Producers" shtick away, and turned out a positively entertaining movie without losing his creative freedom. If Terry Gilliam could stop his anti-hollywood shtick, he could have made The Brothers Grimm into a good Hollywood film, with his usual Gilliam wierdness as he did with his last successful one, 12 Monkeys. But instead he remains bitter, and seems to not care about releasing crap even if the Producers tell him to change things around(Brothers Grimm and Tideland). I love Terry Gilliam, but I'm happy that Gore Virbinski was a successful Terry Gilliam-subsitute with PIRATES 3.

I've noticed it in all the films, actually. And a lot of the comedy bits are very Pythonesque. Another example... the Indian Pirate Lord with the high pitched voice reminded me of Terry Jones when he goes drag.

exactly, that was the biggest laugh in the whole movie - totally Pythonesque, and even all those Pirate Leaders from different countries. I thought the previous two were more Buster Keatonish/Jackie Chanish. This third one really reminded me of Gilliam flicks or the Python influence.
