Mr. Brooks (Kevin Costner) - Reviews, thoughts, etc...
Since this flick is being released this coming Friday, I think it's time for a thread for this one. If people actually go to the theater to check it out, I'm sure there will be more than a few people who will have things to say about this one, since many are considering it Kevin Coster's "return" to being taken serious as an actor once again. Many people are saying that it's one of the best flicks of the year so far, but I guess we'll know for sure here pretty soon.

Earl Brooks (played by Academy Award winner, Kevin Costner) is a loving family man and a local business icon. But Mr. Brooks is deeply flawed and very aware of it. He is addicted to killing. Struggling with his pathology, he tries to quit, but his alter-ego, “Marshall” (played by Academy Award winner, William Hurt), has an altogether different idea. “Marshall” enjoys his “existence” and his “work.”

"Costner’s best performance ever! An intelligent, terrific thriller with twists and kinky characters. Costner and Hurt are a sensational team. "
"A creepy, effective thriller spotlighting bravura performances by both Kevin Costner and William Hurt."

This looked interesting until I found out William Hurt is a manifestation of Costner's character. The trailers made him look like a real character. I'll still probably see it, but I'm not expecting as much as I did before.

I don't think anyone ever took Costner seriously as an actor.

"Rated R for strong bloody violence, some graphic sexual content, nudity and language"
I can't wait for this!

I'm sure you could find 100 awful movies with a similar rating.

OUCH!!!! Sure, he's made a few duds but he's made many a great film. Bull Durhum, Field of Dreams, JFK, Dances With Wolves, Open Range, Thirteen Days, The Upside of Anger, The Untouchables, and Silverado to name a few.
Looking forward to Mr. Brooks. It looks interesting, but I do agree that the thing that kinda worries me about the production is Dane Cook.

Its a welcome relief from the bloodless, slapstick violence of movies like Spider-man 3 and POTC.

I think it looks great, I will be seeing it, and I hope it does well next weekend. It looks like a great alternative to the same PG-13 crap Hollywood shoves down our throats for three straight months every summer.

I think I'm the only person left on this planet who still likes Costner. I admit he has made a few duds, but I still look forward to each new role he portrays. I can't wait to see this. Viva Costner!! lol

I was lukewarm on the trailer, I thought it looked a little like that Bruce Willis/Halle Berry movie "Perfect Stranger(?)".
But the positive buzz is making me think I should see it, unless Day Watch opens in my market.

I hadn't really heard what this was about, then heard Dane Cook was in it and I was like in a serious movie and I was like eck.. but the few scenes I've seen with him in them he actually does a good job, so I will be seeing this, plus I like Kevin Costner.

Although I don't believe Dane Cook to be what is known, according to any definition, as an "actor," Kevin Costner still manages to arouse a bit of hope within me. And, although he is playing neither a baseball player, nor an archetypal "cowboy," I believe this could be a return to form for Costner.
I'd like to catch this after work Friday, along with Knocked Up, prior to going to see Loney, Dear after work on Saturday night. If not, Sunday shall be reserved...

This looks like it could be pretty good. Another chance for Bill Hurt to play a profane and sinister character a la A History of Violence (although presumably sans the obnoxious accent).
Costner has always been a very solid actor. One would just have to question some of his choices, especially as a producer/director. Sure, he has phoned in a couple of performances, but only in films that already sucked anyway.

My only concern about the film is the director. As far as I know, the only other film he made was Kuffs, which starred Christian Slater. I don't remember liking that too well. That's not much to go on, but I'll probably see the film if reviews are good enough.
