Hope I didn't get hopes up and I think I've might've let a lot of you down. Sorry, I thought it was good, not great, but something a bit different. Horror seems to be weak this year, so maybe that's why I liked it, cuase everything else been sucky.

Supermallet 05-28-07 09:10 PM

I agree with you, it's good, not great. I just don't think it's horror, is all.

The bug is so small that at first Judd can't see it, but he convinces her that it's there. Very soon, they both believe the apartment is swarming with bugs, and they start exhibiting open sores on their body. Soon after that, the entire apartment is covered in tin foil and both of them have gone completely batshit. A doctor comes in and convinces Judd to give up Peter. Peter then comes out and stabs the doctor, claiming he's a robot. The insanity escalates and the film ends with Judd and Peter burning themselves alive. The entire time, it's quite clear that Peter is a paranoid schizophrenic and Judd is so desperate for human contact that she buys into his paranoia hook, line, and sinker.

Now don't complain if that's too much of a spoiler, because you asked for it.

Thanks, that's just what I wanted. When I say spoiler it, I mean just that. :)

I'm wondering how this was a play?

Supermallet 05-28-07 11:30 PM

It all takes place in one room and has five characters total. I think it probably worked better as a play. The movie makes some things too clear that should have remained ambiguous.

Zodiac_Speaking 05-29-07 12:32 AM

True, things should've been ambigous. I still liked it and stand by my critque of it.

No worries. I had planned on seeing it anyway. Metacritic has it at 63 percent, so you weren't the only one that liked it. :)

i saw this tonight (tuesday) and they pulled the first 5 minutes of hostel!! Did they ever show it on friday-monday??? I complained after the show and got a free movie ticket! :)

apparently for some reason AMC was instructed to remove the first five minutes of hostel 2. I wonder why?

ChefWinduAZ 05-29-07 11:51 PM

William Friedkin has made it quite clear that this is not a horror film. Just in case anyone goes into this expecting it to be one.

uhftv 05-30-07 02:10 AM

I figured that it was gonna be one of those films where they decide to market it as horror even if it wasnt as they only way to appeal to a wider audience if this was gonna play nationwide. But the lack of teenagers made me think there was more substance. I still cant decide if I should see it or not. Can someone gives examples of what films are similar to this: good or bad?

My theatre didn't get the Hostel preview either. I believe it was advertised as playing in select theatres.

I was kinda bummed. :|

I'm sure people will disagree with me but...There's parts of it that remind me of the movie Tape, with Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. In the sense that both movies are based on a play and take place primarily in a small, claustrophobic hotel room.

But then, toward the end, the body horror and self-mutilation kick in. That's where the similarities end.

For me, it wasn't the acting, directing, or script (all of which were bad) that made me believe this to be a very poorly done film...

It was the fact that, after seeing the boom mike displayed twice, fairly prominently, within the first few minutes, I just sort of lost respect for it on a cinematic level.

The boom mic being visible is not the fault of the filmmakers, but the fault of the projectionist.

Supermallet 05-30-07 09:10 PM

I didn't see any boom mics when I caught the movie. I'm guessing the movie theater misframed the print. That's the most common reason for seeing things like boom mics.

SeekOnce 05-31-07 12:01 AM

A friend of mine dragged me to go see this movie last weekend. I had no idea what it was about going in, except that it was suppose to be a some sort of horror flick according to my buddy. At several points through the showing, the people in my theatre were straight out laughing. And I certainly didn't blame them.

This movie

Perkinsun Dzees 05-31-07 02:53 AM

Any movie that has Ashley's juggs can't be all bad.

Re: "Bug" (Ashley Judd)" reviews thread...

Watched this last night...what a terrible piece of s**t. The first half was ok and had good acting, but the second half was sooooooooooooo awful. The last 15 mins or so might be up there with some of the worst movies ever made. Ashley Judd should be ashamed of herself.
