I still remember seeing those first commercials...and also seeing it in the drive-in. Ahh, those were the days.
What I can't believe is that it's been 30 years and I'm still forced to watch fcking bootlegs to get the best quality of this.

I was 9 and remember standing in line in front of the Cinerama Theater. And that's all I remember. I don't remember anything from the actual viewing itself. I don't remember the crowd. I don't remember where I sat. All I remember was catching the bus to go stand in line until my aunt showed up with my cousins.
Oddly, I remember the viewing of JAWS two years earlier more than I do Star Wars. Sitting in Waikiki Theater #2, 5 rows up from the first sort of balcony. My mother throwing her popcorn when Ben Gardner's head pop out from the hole in the hull of his ship.

Cheers to my favorite movie of all-time. No movie has ever moved me the way Star Wars did and still does today, as I still watch it as that self contained film where nobody was related. I will commerorate the anniversary with my gazillionth viewing of the movie, unfortunately in non-anamorphic.

Happy 30th aniversary, although how can we be celebrating the 30th birthday to a movie that GL says doesn't exist to him anymore.

Wow 30 years.
My earliest memories in a movie theater are watching Return of the Jedi. When I was older my brother sat me down to watch all three movies back to back. Star Wars seemed to bring us together, seeing as well he was not the best older brother. Sadly we did not get a chance to enjoy the Prequel trilogy together. By that time he had become a real ass, and I did not see the guy I used to look up to. Luckily my older sister was still around and we got to enjoy those films together as my parents went through what was an ugly divorce. These movies provided an escape through some bad times, and I'm not exactly sure how I would have got through it all without them.
