Mission: Impossible 2 & 3 question...
My wife recorded MI3 off the dish, but I haven't seen 2 yet (I have seen the first one, though). Do I need to see 2 first, or do the storlines stand on their own enough that I can see them in non-chronological order? Thanks in advance, all.
|
I've seen three but not two, and can safely say it's fully standalone.
|
None of these movies have anything to do with one another except for the fact that Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames are in all of them.
|
There are a couple quick throw away lines in MI3 about stuff that happened in MI 1. I guess just as a wink to the fans. Other than that, you really dont need to watch MI1 or 2 unless you care about the introduction of the Cruise and Rhames characters.

You're better off not seeing 2 altogether.

Agreed...forget 2 happened. 1 and 3 are solid and M:I:III works fine as a movie in it's own right, so watch it now!
|
The only problem with MI-III is that they neglected to explain why Ethan Hunt cut his hair short. And, oh, how Thandie Newton turned into Bridget Monahan. ;)
|
You do realize that Thandie and Bridget play two different characters, right? I'm assuming you did with the little ;) but didn't want to confuse the OP.

I managed to separate em since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, for some reason everytime I see Michelle I think of a bear biting the heads off fish.

touche.

As others have said, no need to watch MI2...
Funny how John Woo's gunplay moves seem to be the hottest thing back then, but it just made this film look absolutely ridiculous. Plus Ethan Hunt is suppose to be part of the Mission Impossible TEAM...not the Mission Impossible duo with Ving Rhames seemingly his sidekick. Forget the so-called other team member who pilots the chopper...they only got him cuz he's Australian & the film was shot in Australia. |
I can enjoy the guilty pleasure of the ridiculousness of MI2, but really, the only thing 2 does is prepare you for the apparent Super-Agent Jack Bauer status that Ethan Hunt has managed to attain by MI3. In MI1 he seems like a very competent agent, perhaps a cut above the rest. In 2, he was a full-on John Woo action guy, and by 3 he's supposedly so badass that even the other agents are afraid to go against him.

That's a good point. MI-III agent Hunt would never make the "oh shit" faces that MI-I agent Hunt made when outrunning an exploding aquarium or being propelled forward by an exploding helicopter.

Still, I think there is definitely more genuine teamwork in M:i:III than there is in II. I liked III a lot.

I believe you mean Dougray (pronounced DOO-Gray) Scott of 'Ever After' fame, and the original Wolverine who (thank Christ) was replaced by Hugh Jackman when MI2 ran over its shoot time... It's an unforgiveable mix-up and you must be punished.. now "GAET DEOWN ON YAR KNEES... and learn what I mean by GAETTING MY GOON OFF!" |
At least I had a legitimate reason for mixing up actors, with Monaghan and Moynahan :)
