one snippet of a review that is actually featured in the film's trailer slams American Hollywood animated films by stating that Japanese animation and particularily for this film is superior and that 'they' (US mainstream animated pics) are still in the kiddie sandbox

I saw the movie last month at a special screening attended by the director. It has the most elaborate animation of any Satoshi Kon film to date, but the story is just slightly above average. I liked the main character, but a plot development late in the film seemed like it came out of the blue. It has a neat opening credits sequence and an inside joke at the end. It's not as dark as Perfect Blue, nor is it as light as Tokyo Godfathers. Only one scene really merits the "R" rating. I give it a B. :) Also: The subtitles on the print I saw were often very hard to read. They were white with no outline, which caused them to disappear occasionally when the screen went all white.

The Japanese region 2 DVD and Blu-Ray Disc will be coming out soon, but unfortunately, they don't have English subtitles.

I saw this last fall when it was shown at the NY Film Festival. It's a visual treat that is ultimately satisfying even though it gets a bit more convoluted that necessary. Definitely worth seeing.

Interesting film with an eerie tone to it that has yet to be duplicated in American films. I loved the visuals and the Paprika character was the most interesting. Not a monumental movie for anime, but pretty good. It does get convoluted (as most anime tends to) but you can't pull yourself away from what's happening on screen. One thing to note is the music. Great music that I wouldn't mind finding the soundtrack for.

I didn't think it was convoluted at all, I loved how a simplistic premise becomes so multilayerd from accomplished director Satoshi Kon, Add some great visuals, music and I was quite literally mismerized. I thought it was great.

I was disappointed. Considering the premise, I didn't think it went far enough with its ideas. Still, it did have some cool visuals.

Anyone have a release calendar for this film?

Looking forward to seeing this one. Kon is an amazing director.
