Despite the bad reviews, I don't see this movie taking a huge drop off like Hulk did. Spider-man is such an enduring character, even a "bad" movie will still rake in dough.

I find the "Bad" reviews very interesting.

It clearly isn't a "bad" movie. Hell, even David Elliott in the San Diego Union Tribune gave it a good review, and he is usually fairly critical of big, summer blockbuster action movies.

I think most people are going to go and decide for themselves - I'm betting Spider Man 3 hits at least $300 million and probably tops off around $325 million.

But the other two Spider-man movies, and Pirates last summer, had huge momentum. It'll race to 300 million faster than any other movie.

So, will this be the first movie to reach 100m(domestic) in two days?

edit: Nope, guess Pirates did it last yr.

The 2nd wknd will be key (still having it all to itself), the first one had a really good hold it's 2nd wk with 70m. Hopefully S3 will get 75 or so (still accounting for the larger drop-off from it's 140m this wknd) If the numbers cut in half every wk after that, it's got 350.

It's nowhere near as bad as Pirates 2, which still astonishes me by how well it did. I foresee $300-$350m easily, particular if as I hope Shrek 3 underwhelms.

Yeah. Shrek 2 was lame compared to the first. I would really like to see Shrek 3 underwhelm and maybe they'll stop the franchise before we get to five movies like Banderas claims they're gonna make.

Sony says the production budget is $258 million. That doesn't factor in advertising costs, I don't think. By next Friday, it should have cleared close to $200 million. So I think $350 million+ is well within reach.

I think Sony is lying. I imagine it probably cost a little over $400m all told.

Man, so if Spidey only makes $30 million today it will still have beat the record on Pirates 2.

That feels about right. I was just commenting that even if it under performs, it will still beat Pirates 2.

how come your work pays a bonus if SM does well, but mine only has the normal Monday morning meetings talking about who we're auditing that week?

I'm interested to see how this plays out. It is a strong possibility that it reaches $75m next weekend but how will it do after that ? Will SM3 fall victim to Shrek and Pirates or will people continue to run out and see it. One thing is for sure, it will grab 300m in a hurry.
