Re: Ridley Scott to Direct Nottingham

I read somewhere the other day that Scott plans to call it simply "Robin Hood". Also, he has extensively re-written the script and Crowe is no longer pulling double duty.

Having Australian actors already puts it a step ahead of Prince of Thieves.

Awesome news about Cate Blanchett!

But who will be the Sheriff now if not Russell Crowe (or is he no longer playing Robin Hood but still Nottingham?)?

Is it true that Mark Strong will be Guy of Gisbourne?

If anyone would do it he would thats for sure. I kinda doubt it though. Robin Hood is actually one movie where I dont think they need an R-rating to ttell the story hhowever It would be interesting to see what an R-rated Robin Hood would indeed look like.
I have to say though that it kinda seems pointless to make this. At first it seemed like we were getting a fresh take on the story with "Nottingham". That sounded fresh and new and exciting. Now that has changed and again we are getting the standard same old Robin Hood tale yet again. Guess I will await more info. and footage to judge this though.

William Hurt jousting for Robin Hood role
Actor set to play William Marshall in Russell Crowe starrer
By Borys Kit
April 12, 2009, 11:00 PM ET

William Hurt has joined the cast of Universal and Imagine's untitled Robin Hood film being directed by Ridley Scott.

Russell Crowe toplines the movie, which is billed as a retelling of the origins of the legend's key characters. Cate Blanchett is on board as Maid Marian, and the project, written by Brian Helgeland, also includes Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle as the Merry Men.

Hurt plays William Marshall, the Earl of Pembroke, a historical figure who was one of the most powerful men in Europe. Marshall was a servant to the Plantagenet kings and one of the best jousters of the era.

The movie just started lensing in the U.K.; Scott is producing with Imagine's Brian Grazer.

Repped by Endeavor, Hurt was Oscar-nominated for his supporting role in 2005's "A History of Violence." Recent credits include "The Incredible Hulk," "Into the Wild" and FX's "Damages."

Thank God! Gone is the long hair as of late. And those extra 30 plus pounds he's been sporting these past few years. Now, bring on some pics of Cate Blachett as Maid Marian! Man I can't wait for this movie. I'm loving "Kingdom of Heaven" more and more with each viewing, and I hope this is half as good. Because I think it's Scott's most underrated film.

I dunno. I'd prefer a hottie like Miller in the role of Maid Marian. Cate Blanchett would make a better Sheriff of Nottingham. And Russell Crowe should play Little John or, better yet, given his weight these days, Friar Tuck. Get an actual charismatic young lead to play Robin. Not that there are any these days.

Re: Ridley Scott to Direct Nottingham

I'm surprised there haven't been any updates about rumors of chaos on the set.

Supposedly they have stopped filming because Crowe has been asked to lose 40 pounds. Someone form the production leaked info about he looked more like Friar Tuck than Robin Hood.

Several reports say Russel Crowe isn't even speaking to Ridley at this point.

Not sure if it's true or not.

Of course publicists and the studios are saying everything is fine.

The original news is from the New York Post? I'm not inclined to believe a word of it.

Re: Ridley Scott to Direct Nottingham

As much as I love Ridley Scott, from the trailer, it sort of looks like a present-time Russell Crowe playing himself in a Robin Hood movie! Sort of like the same feeling I got when seeing Jason Statham in that In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale movie.

I hope u understand what I mean. I'm not saying that Robin Hood the movie looks like that awful Uwe Boll film. All I'm saying is that Russell Crowe looks like he's playing himself in this Robin Hood film.
