Any word on the Nick Cage movie, "Next"?

I haven't seen any reviews for this movie yet. I am guessing there haven't been any advanced previews. That is definitely not a good sign.

It sittin' not too pretty at 35% on Rottentomatoes right now. It looks utterly terrible to me. I'm sure it'll be just another cookie cutter action flick. That scene with the oil tanker being tossed about by an explosion has some of the worst special effects I've ever seen.

I hate to threadcrap, but it looks awful, what is Nic Cage doing!?!? After five good movies, Weatherman and Lord of War, Adaptation, Matchstick Men and National Treasure he does Wicker Man, Ghost Rider, and Next. Horrible. This weekend is AWFUL for movies. I guess it has to be before the huge summer movies

Next
The Condemned
The Invisible
Kickin' It Old Skool

Ghost rider had a good preview & i can't wait to pick it up on DVD! but this movie looks awful. What a awful name for a movie.
I have never been a huge Nick Cage fan but at least before this he was in some good movies.
This reminds me of Mark W. who was in the sucessful Departed but then his next movie, Shooter went away without a sound.

They are already, some quotes from Rotten Tomatoes:

"The tagline says, 'If you can see the future, you can save it.' For that matter, if you don't see Next, you can save 96 minutes. What starts out as a mildly diverting thriller blows itself to smithereens in the final reel."

"If the protagonist of Next were to use his ability to peer two minutes into the future before watching Next, he'd probably have enough to go on to skip it altogether."

The funniest: "Nicolas Cage's hair is the most memorable thing about Next"

What's really sad is that this movie's premise is supposedly taken from a Philip K. Dick story. I'm pretty sure Philip K. Dick did not have Nick Cage in mind when he wrote any of his stories.

The New York Times review starts with:

"In "Next," a crummy action and speculative-fiction hybrid, Nicolas Cage plays a guy who can see into the future two minutes at a time. It's too bad that Mr. Cage couldn't tap into those same powers of divination to save himself from making yet another inexplicably bad choice in roles."

.... and that's about the nicest thing it has to say.

the roles he chooses have nothing to do with him making bad films.

It looks like Nic borrowed Tom Hank's horrible hairpiece from The Davinci Code.

The only comment I made after first seeing the trailer for 'Next' was...

"damn Jessica Biel looks smoking hot!...."

that's about it...

It looks like a fun action movie at least... similar to The Island. I'd still see it despite the reviews.

Where would sci-fi movies be without Philip K. Dick to "inspire" their ideas?

Being a PKD fan is exactly what makes me so sad with these wastes of great material. I mean we have two good PKD movies out there (sorry, I thought Total Recall was mundane at best) and Blade Runner was pretty much this side of Lawnmower Man as far as how much it had to do with the story. I feel it was the height of nobility to at least re-title it and recognize that it was a different story and only "inspired by".

Thank GOD!!! Linklater broke new ground by actually telling the story that the title indicated. And I gotta say, if they had to get just one of them right I am so glad ASD was the one.

(I'll Netflix Next.)

Two alternate titles:

Nexxxxt!

or

Next Please!

I love time travel and alternate reality movies so it's a disappointment to hear bad things about this movie.

There were no review screenings. That should give you a clue as it's relative merits.

In fact, the only movie opening this weekend that was pre-screened was The Condemned. Not sure why, though.

Jessica Biel is playing Cage's love interest... and not his daughter, right?

Does this creep anyone else out?

She's older than Cage's actual wife.

"Jessica Biel puts in an Oscar worthy performance to make us believe a hot babe like her would be interested in a balding, creepy guy twice her age like Nic Cage, so give her some props."

This really asn't that bad. It had some huge plot holes and logic, but was fun and a good little appetizer for the summer. Nothing more, nothing less. could've been really good, but its an average time waster. Moore was good despite what she had to work with.

Doesn't anyone think it's funny that a studio actually gave Lee Tamahori a job after his arrest last year for dressing in drag as a prostitiute in Hollywood?

No, I don't find it funny at all. They've hired much worse people to direct other movies *cough* Victor Salva *cough*
