The Fighter (Russell, 2011): Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg
From Hollywood Reporter
I am a Darren Aronofsky fan but...
Another true story of a boxer's fall-and-rise? Meh. And Damon and Wahlberg now playing brothers? Double meh.

I'd wait until seeing the film or at least wait until it's done being filmed and we have seen a few trailers before even beginning to wonder if this is some kind of sellout or cash a paycheck film. On paper, Cinderella Man and Raging Bull are both boxing biopics. But they are hardly what I would call similar films.

He is actually lucky to be getting high profile work like this. Aronofsky has never made a hit movie or even one which made over 15 million in the U.S. box office. The Fountain failed at the box office in spite of a decent budget and some name stars. Studios are not charities, even for the most talented.

Looks like Aronofsky is OUT.
David O. Russell (my, my he is certainly staying busy this year) Is IN as new Director
AND Christian Bale is now the co-lead along with Marky-Mark who is still slated to star.
This makes sense and I think this is good news. Russell has worked with Wahlberg on both Three Kings and I heart Huckabees (which I believe are two of his best performances.)

I've always loved that Ari animation and I love The Fountain, so great job on that. I'm sure Aronofsky can bring his style to this picture regardless of him being a late addition...I'm looking forward to it.

Isn't he working on a reboot of RoboCop now? Maybe The Wrestler gave him enough street cred for him to drop out of The Fighter and pick up a possible cash cow in RoboCop. I'm all for it, I like his movies and I appreciate him as an artist but homey's gotta get paid.

I thought this was an ealry thread on the new teen fighting movie I've been seeing ads for lately. Isn't that called The Fighter too. I read the thread title thinking "holy shit, Aronofsky directed THAT!"

I actually was wondering what would happen if Russell and Bale were doing a movie together, if the world would blow up and shit.
Finally, the first movie to ever have its filming broadcast live on pay-per-view!
