Re: Is it safe to say that Jim Carrey's career is pretty much over?

I think in some ways he's going down the path of Kaufman.

That interview was awesome. Maybe we share the same mental problems.

Also: a lot of people on Twitter are drawing similarities to Rick Sanchez (of Rick and Morty). That's ... pretty accurate.

He's definitely nutty, but he's right that some award show honoring "icons" could be the most vacuous thing on earth. He's right to be dismissive.

I actually like a lot of Carrey's artwork. If I cared enough I'd buy some of his stuff.

Carrey has had a pretty crappy personal life in recent years. I think he's also on a ton of painkillers which probably stems from his physical comedy over the years. I wouldn't be surprised if he was stoned out of his gourd most of the time nowadays.

But when he was in the Oscar hunt, he was totally willing to drop to his knees and do whatever it took.

Bizarre interview. I'm wondering if he was putting on a schtick and the interviewer wasn't in on it or if he actually believed what he was saying.

That interview was fucking great. He's pulling a Kaufman and in the process freaking out a vapid "reporter" who only cares about what after party some C-list celeb can sneak her into after. He's right; it's all meaningless. Call them out. Have fun with it. It's amazing how honest celebs can be when they simply don't care any longer.

Shit, he looks terrible. Most likely has mental health issues too, like most comics.
If that is the case I hope he does not end up like Robin Williams

Cat Sadler was the reporter who is one of the hosts on E! News.

If people don't understand what he was doing in that interview then they don't understand comedy. He wasn't "out of it."

Going to a fashion event and saying it is meaningless... come on...

In the last few days i actually wondered what had happened to Jim Carrey.

This video seems to indicate he has turned into a pot smoking Jerry Lewis. This is the transitional period and soon all that attempt at deep thought will turn into blind hatred for life, the universe and everything.... just like Jerry had.

It's funny reading the beginning of this thread, where people were comparing him to Steve Carell. Now Carell is the one with the serious acting career and Oscar nominations.

Well, only one nomination but he should have gotten it instead of Christian Bale for The Big Short.

Maybe you're right and maybe as others have said he's pulling a Kaufman, but surely we can all agree based on that "comedic" performance he used to be... funnier.

Re: Is it safe to say that Jim Carrey's career is pretty much over?

Jim Carrey recounts Batman Forever clashes with Tommy Lee Jones. (From EW)

Jim Carrey spent most of his screentime in Batman Forever cackling up a storm as the Riddler, but apparently, that set was a lot less fun behind the scenes. Carrey has mentioned in the past that he and Tommy Lee Jones (who costarred as the villainous Two-Face) did not get along.

In a new interview with Norm Macdonald, Carrey elaborates further. “I was the star, and that was the problem,” Carrey said on Norm Macdonald Live. “Phenomenal actor, though. Still love him.”

As Carrey explained, he met Jones at a restaurant before they worked on the film together. “I went over and said, ‘Hey, Tommy, how you doing?’ And the blood just drained from his face like he had been thinking about me 24 hours a day. …

It was before the biggest scene we have together in the movie. The blood just drained from his face. He started shaking and he got up and … he must have been in mid-kill-me fantasy or something.

He went to hug me and said, ‘I hate you. I really don’t like you.’ I said, ‘Gee man, what’s the problem?’ I pulled up a chair, which probably wasn’t smart.

And he said, ‘I cannot sanction your buffoonery.'” Carrey added that Jones maybe wasn’t comfortable with the comic-book material.

This isn’t the first time Carrey has recalled the Jones anecdote. In an interview with Howard Stern in 2014, Carrey recalled the story — again saying how much he respected Jones as a performer and still did at the time.

These California lawsuits are crazy with the salaciousness they allow in their pleadings:

'[I]nstead of giving Ms. White flowers and chocolates, Carrey should have given her his STD test results and that, and he should have refrained from sex with her - THAT is what she deserved on Valentine's Day.'

On the STD thing... How do people get around that? You'd think there would be non-stop news stories about it. Anyone with money and a sex life (must be nice!) would be a target.

Tommy Lee Jones sounds like a douche from how he treated Carrey upon their initial meeting.
