Eagle vs. Shark (Taika Cohen, 2007) — with Jermaine Clement

Eagle vs. Shark

IMDB - Rotten Tomatoes - HD Trailer at Apple.com

This movie comes out in June and features Jermaine Clement (of Flight of the Conchords and Outback Steakhouse commercials fame). It seems to be one of those sort of oddball comedies like You and Me and Everyone We Know or Amιlie (or Napoleon Dynamite, if you must).

I have to say that if Jermaine Clement was involved, I wouldn't bother with this but he's hilarious. I hope this at least gets a somewhat wide release (beyond NYC and LA) so I can actually see it.

Saw this last night and it was pretty good. Unfortunately quirky movies like these are going to be compared to Napoleon Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine and for the most part, those are superior movies. That's not to take anything away from this one but it does seem a bit derivative. Still recommended for fans of the genre.

Edited to add: This seems terribly derivative now that I think about it.

Spoiler:

Jarrod's Dad = Royal Tenenbaum
Jarrod's dead brother's fiancee = Chas Tenenbaum (Ben Stiller)
Hacker friend = Kip
Jarrod's daughter = Olive (from LMS)
Jarrod = Napoleon Dynamite

Don't get me wrong. It's still a nice movie but it's not terribly original. It does have some very funny sequences.
