Mr. Bean's Holiday — (Bendelack, 2007)

http://english.people.com.cn/200703/08/images/bean1.jpg

"Mr. Bean returns but not for long as he goes on his travels to the south of France where mishap and mayhem begin, by the end Bean even has his video diaries at the Cannes Film Festival."

Reminds me of something...

Who wanted this movie made? It's been a decade since Mr. Bean came out? Then again Johnny English somehow ended up making $27MM...

Mr. Atkinson is pleasing in short doses but another movie? Why? I can only guess he's doing well in the international market.

The show was a cult hit for the five years it was on.
It spawned an animated television series that was on for a few more.
It spawned a theatrical film that made $250 million worldwide on a budget of $18 million.

I could honestly see why they would do a sequel, but why a decade later, god knows why.

tylergfoster 03-23-07 05:15 PM

The cartoon show was actually on in between. It may have been ten years since the movie but it's been less since the cartoon.

I dunno. I kind of want to see it, but who knows. As long as it doesn't just recycle jokes from the show like the first movie did. That was disappointing.

Groucho 03-23-07 05:18 PM

The first movie was terrible. If they keep this one more like the show and less "Americanized" could be funny.

Supermallet 03-23-07 11:16 PM

I loved the show AND the movie, so I will gladly see this, even if it is a remake of M. Hulot's Holiday. I always thought Mr. Bean was a bit of a rip from M. Hulot, anyway.

MovieMaster11 03-24-07 03:07 AM

I might get slack but I loved the animated television series but never cared for the TV show.

grim_tales 03-24-07 04:16 AM

I liked Bean. :) By its very nature the film did contain some familliar TV show sketches, didn't bother me at all.
I have to agree though, why wait a flippin' decade to do a sequel?

Rizor 03-24-07 09:18 AM

I never really liked Mr. Bean. But I saw the movie and found it to be surprisingly likable.

bhk 03-24-07 10:29 AM

Sounds good. Plus as a bonus, it'll be the Frenchies at the pointed end of the stick.

movieguru 03-28-07 08:32 PM

Hadn't heard of the Mr. Bean cartoon until recently. I will see the new movie. it was a long time between sequels. i guess rowan didn't want to do one right away

calhoun07 03-28-07 09:40 PM

well, I really would like to see this. I don't know why they waited so long to make a new movie...it seems Rowan Atkinson is getting a tad long in the tooth to be playing this goofy character...but I will buy it on DVD when it comes out regardless of what any critics in America say!

tronmaster 03-28-07 09:42 PM

There was a teaser or a trailer for this, can't remember where I found it. Sounds cool, I have been meaning to purchase the tv show set of Mr. Bean. I watch the movie on one of the Starz network, I thought it was pretty good.

Can't wait!

I agree hes good in 'VERY SHORT DOSES'. I never understood the appeal in the TV series Mr. Bean, of course i don't understand the appeal of alot of british TV series exept for a touch of frost, keeping up appearences, are you being served? & the spin-off series (or continuation) are you being served? Again! (AKA 'Grace & Favor').
through i have watched (& Own the DVD) i don't understand all the praise for 'Fawlty Towers'.-boy will the shit start flying now!
i did enjoy the animated series for some odd reason, and johnny english was actually a half decent movie.

Why, Mr. Bean isn't supposed to age?

bhk 03-30-07 11:32 AM

That trailer was good.

RichC2 03-30-07 12:08 PM

It was funny seeing him act straight laced and struggling (his character) to make religious jokes in Keeping Mum.

dcprules 03-30-07 01:57 PM

As a huge Mr. Bean fan, I'm definitely looking forward to this. I've been enjoying Mr. Bean ever since I first saw him on HBO in the early ninties when I was really young. Still like him today. Even enjoyed the animated series. I loved the first movie and it's one of the very few VHS tapes I still hold on to as it's a Special Edition that contains about twenty really funny minutes of deleted scenes.

Unfortunately, Mr. Bean's Holiday opens in the UK this weekend and other major teritories next month. It doesn't open in USA, however, until the end of August.

Supermallet 03-30-07 02:38 PM

Was that Woody Harrelson as the director in the trailer?

Well, I guess it depends what they do with the character. Watching a man of advancing years act the same like he did when he was younger is not all that fun. Do you think Kevin Smith should keep on playing Silent Bob the same way he did during the Jersey movies when he's pushing 50? I am not saying Silent Bob shouldn't age...I guess it depends how they handle the aging of the character, if they write it in or if they try to pretend Mr. Bean is the same age in the movie as he was in the first TV series.

It's Willem Dafoe, actually

big whoppa 08-25-07 08:04 AM

No one has seen this one yet? I saw the first movie and couldn't stand Mr. Bean, the character or the movie for the most part. Thought I'd check here and see how many hated this sequel. :)

Giantrobo 08-25-07 08:18 AM

I loves Rowan's OTHER stuff because I think he's a smart guy who writes smart comedy. I also agree that "Mr. Bean", in small doses, is fun. But making full blown "Mr. Bean" films with all this silly NOT FUNNY slapstick sometimes makes me wonder; what's going through Rowans mind when he's writing this junk....other than £ signs.
