Thoughts on THE WARRIORS Remake

Yet another remake of a 70s low budget Cult classic (for fuck's sake someone please remake Last House on the Left)

I was hesitant with the Assault on Precinct 13 remake and that was decent but the Warriors, there's something magic about the original film. The colorful gangs rocked in the original but would look cheesy in a remake.

Will be interesting to see who they cast for this remake

I thought they were pretty cheesy in the origonal, especially the baseball gang. I can't see this movie being remade in anything other than a comedy.

If these gangs existed in the modern days you might as well send em over there to fight Al Qaeda. They would definitely get no respect here.

I enjoyed the original, but when I saw a rapper do this idea for his video it made me sick.

As far as ideas go - this sounds like a bad one.

It's probably gonna wind up as a generic gang film. I doubt they would try to re-create the themed gangs.

Looks like they're remaking The Warriors

I was browsing IMDB when I came across this.

This one is to be set in LA. I think Tony Scott is a cool choice for director. There really haven't been any recent gang movies, maybe it's time for another.

the original being my all-time favorite, i refuse to support a movie that is a blatant cockslap in the face of the original.

Scott said at some point that he was going to make it huge, including gangs with hundreds or even thousands of members.

I dunno. Maybe. I just hope Scott doesn't keep the same overexposed, burned-out, blender-chopped ADD directorial style he's been using for his past few movies.

Figured it was only a matter of time before this would be part of the remake flood.

Re: Looks like they're remaking The Warriors

"I'm not doing a straight remake," Scott insisted. "I love the original WARRIORS and I'm using the same basic story. It's really still 10 guys stuck at point B and they need to get back to point A. But I'm going to set it in Los Angeles and it's going to be a kind of study of gang culture in LA today."

Scott says he plans to play up the vertical nature of how Los Angeles is laid out opposed to the horizontal nature of New York with its many skyscrapers. In the original film, the setting of tightly packed high-rises and the subway gave much of the film a closed-in look. Scott says he wants to get 100,000 real gang members standing on the Vincent Thomas Bridge for one shot, presumably to replicate the gang meeting that takes place at the beginning of the 1979 film.

Scott has been meeting with representatives of the area gangs, who so far have expressed interest in being in the film since, according to the director, they're all fans of THE WARRIORS.

I thought they already did try to remake it with The Purifiers.

I will allow this if it means we can finally get the theatrical cut of the original on BD.

Re: Looks like they're remaking The Warriors

Today's real gangs are more dangerous than anything they can put on screen.
Back in 1979 there were trouble in the movie theaters showing THE WARRIORS all over America. With today's gangs and the culture be prepared for bloodbaths!
Who's brave enough to see a midnight opening weekend showing in L.A.?

Re: Looks like they're remaking The Warriors

My god, why even call it the Warriors then if your just planning to remake it as a realistic gang violence pic?

I think those animated interstitials might have worked if someone had actually bothered to create legitimate artwork (like Alex Ross paintings or something). Instead they did it in the computer in 10 minutes and it looked like ass. I was in a CD and Game Exchange in January and I found the original DVD and picked it up.

They've been talking about this since '05. It looks like it's not going to happen.

Which is great news

Re: Looks like they're remaking The Warriors

I'm for this if it means new 35mm prints are struck of the original. Having spoken to private collectors, it's impossible to get for less then $3000. I want to see it in a cinema dammit!
