  • Where did they come from? I mean, did they actually come from the graves? If so, why weren't their bodies decomposed?
  • Why didn't the normal people care? I lied the scenes where they talked about the recently deceased, but they never brought up any of the important questions.
  • Where did they go at the end? Why did they set off all the explosions?
I know the move is about the people having to deal with loved ones coming back, but I thought the entire movie was pointless.
:lol: I knew exactly how you feel about "They Came Back". I knew it wasn't a gut-muncher type of zombie movie, and got the metaphors the movie was going for. I consider myself a fan of foreign art movies that most people would consider boring. And I'm willing to toss aside logic, chalking unanswered questions to "magical realism". But damn ... this movie is more boring than watching grass grow (real-time, that is). I needed something ... a single character I cared about, a single plot-thread that seemed to go somewhere. The movie is shot drearily, acted flatly - just painfully dull in almost every aspect. I supposed the director was intentionally going for drab and emotionless, but that doesn't make it any less of a chore to sit through.

To answer the spoiler questions:

like I said earlier, I think you have to toss out a scientific explanation and just go with magical realism. The movie wanted to be a metaphor about how the living cope with death (especially of loved ones). If you don't let your loved ones "pass on", the living become more zombie-like in their emotions and thought processes. At the end, the dead realized that it wasn't good for them to be a part of the world of the living anymore, and took matters into their own hands. And just vanished. Think of it like a fantasy, not horror/sci-fi. At least that's my explanation. The idea is a solid one, but the execution terrible.


It kind of figures though. American zombies are relentless, ravenous killing machines who enjoy going to shopping malls when not eating people. French zombies are pacifists who just mope around, are unproductive at work, and are stand-offish. :)

A bit older, but Ingmar Bergman's "Hour of the Wolf" fits the bill perfectly. Has a lot of the vibe of "Eraserhead" for me (but a decade earlier).

I got the metaphor, my questions where more rhetorical. I thought the movie had potential but in the end wasn't interesting nor enjoyable to watch.

Im so sorry DoubleDownAgain looks like I opened a can of DEAD worms with that one. I should have said it was a bit slow.......OK really slow and boring.
I did like it because I hate having evrything handed 2 me on a platter.
I dont need explanations sometimes. Take a look at the Begotten (1991) If you can find a copy (at least it has somewhat of a plot) IT IS A WEIRD FILM.

WOW looks cool, I found a trailer Hour of the Wolf reminds me of the original The Wicker man.
