Best 'free ticket' movie you saw?

Whether it was movie cash that they gave away with DVDs or free screening, other, but what was the best one you saw that was totally free?

I can't remember all the ones as there haven't been that many, bt 300 which I just saw recently with the preview disc from Best Buy has to be the best free one I saw in a long time or ever.

A preview cut of Titanic with James Cameron in attendance.

I was given a free pass while going to see Contact and was told it was a screening for Great Expectations.

Jason Bovberg 03-16-07 09:39 AM

An early screening of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, with many of the animation scenes in in rough-cut form.

Also, a sneak peek of Coppola's Dracula, with Coppola in attendance.

Not counting when I used to work at a theatre, I'd say Team America, there was just a fun vibe at that showing. Millions would be a close second though.

Office Space. Snuck in after seeing Rushmore.

Ghostface180 03-16-07 01:47 PM

Got passes to a free screening of The Departed a few days before it opened.

Pillowhead 03-16-07 02:11 PM

Won a couple tickets to original Hills Have Eyes back in '78. Saw free sneak preview of Capricorn One after regular feature.

It wasn't a free ticket movie but my friend was doing marketing for New Line a couple of years ago and I went to the red carpet screening of "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" it was great because I sat three rows behind the director, the screenwriters, and John Cho and Kal Penn. At the premier the inside was set up like a White Castle and we got all the free burgers we wanted. Which since they're nasty we didn't really take them up on but we did get the fries.

:o

I got reimbursed when the theatre queued up Happy Feet instead of Casino Royale. So, technically, that ended up being free, and I liked that movie.

The only "free ticket" I've ever used was to see Chronicles of Riddick when I bought the Pitch Black SE. Pretty decent movie and I would have paid matinee pricing to see it.

islandclaws 03-16-07 04:50 PM

That would be 300.

egy971 03-16-07 05:17 PM

300

Spider-Man 2 (tho Corpse Bride is a heavy second).

May be 300 after this weekend.

The Two Towers free ticket I got from buying LOTR SE was the best movie I saw with a free ticket.

I've seen tons of great free movies by theater hopping. I figure, I spent 9 bucks for a popcorn and drink, and bought a ticket to one movie, it's no harm to the theater if I sit in a seat that would be empty anyways.

Saw "The Matrix" in a 40-seat private screening room on the Warner lot about 3 weeks before it came out.

Knocked me out of my seat!

DeanoBKN 03-16-07 07:54 PM

LOTR: Two Towers with Rocky Balboa a close second.

Jason Bovberg 03-16-07 08:06 PM

This thread is making me feel old.

Except for post #8.

King Kong - got a free ticket in The Frighteners Director's Cut.

zombeaner 03-16-07 09:38 PM

The very first free screening I ever saw is still the most memorable. I got to see Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas about 2 weeks before its release in San Francisco in a packed house FULL of HST fans. When the film rolled and the first line of the novel was being read by Johnny Depp, nearly everyone said it along with him and there was a great roar of cheering. It was amazing! Still a favorite film of mine as well.

zombiezilla 03-16-07 10:18 PM

King Kong, from the JP box set.

hardercore 03-16-07 10:51 PM

I saw Blood Diamond for free and really liked that movie.

AnonomusBob15 03-16-07 11:52 PM

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

crazyrabbits 03-18-07 01:02 AM

Best free ticket film I ever saw? An advance screening of LOTR: The Fellowship Of The Ring extended cut in a massive tent outside a massive Future Shop in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. My mother, brother and I went in early to get front row seats, there were snacks, giveaways and all sorts of prizes, plus it was one of the first screenings (or so I was told) of the extended cut in North America at that point, and it was quite exciting being out under the stars and the cool air with a massive amount of LOTR fans.
