300 in IMAX vs RealD 3d?? anyone know the difference?
 

I saw monster house with 3d glasses in realD, and have seen films in imax (and superman in imax with that 3d options as well)..

just wondering, I notice Colossus in Toronto has 300 playing in all 3 -- normal, imax, and realD...

But I can't find info on the realD version online.

IS it fully 3D with glasses?

That's the first I've heard it playing on RealD, maybe they meant DLP?

I checked this morning and it says DLP..however, last week..it showed as real D.

I saw it in DLP, and since the film had a lot of grain and contrast to begin with, it probably doesn't look much better than a regular showing.

although the 35mm prints will have cigarette burns and possible print imperfections. IMAX screens since their are no reel changes wont have cigarette burnes and will have a higher resolution (65mm). The DLP print I saw did have a haze of grain to it, but I would think that was intentional on the Director/DP's 'creative' decision.

Giles, I already saw the film in a regular theater. Worth a second viewing on an IMAX screen or is there only a marginal difference?

any one want to chime in here who's seen the IMAX version - I would speculate yes, the print will look sharper and possibly less grainy. I only say this because I thought the 35mm print of 'Poseidon' I saw was terribly grainy, the HiDef conversion as seen on HBO, considerably cleaned up, looked better or equal in IMAX. I would assume the Digital Intermediate (master format) source is used for the DM-R conversion to the IMAX format.

Odd. Poseidon looked great to me. V for Vendetta seemed a lot grainier.

IMAX is worth seeing not because it necessarily looks better, but because it's freaking huge with gigantic speakers (your theater may vary).

that also depends on the IMAX theatre, there are a few where they are smaller than say DC's Uptown or AMC's Tyson's Corner Screen 3 that make 1.85 aspect ratio films look massive.

300 was awesome in IMAX.

In my opinion I don't think it would make that good of a movie in IMAX 3D or RealD 3D or whatever that is
