Cruise, Stiller Team for Hardy Boys Flick

I did a search for this first, but didn't see anything posted...

The news just makes me want to hide in my room and cry for the month.

I think it could be kind of funny if done right. Stiller worked with Cruise previously when he did a Mission Impossible 2 spoof for the MTV movie awards.

I wonder if they will get Katie Holmes-Cruise to play Nancy Drew?

This is a movie Cruise feels he needs for his career, Stiller should have stayed away but when it tanks his clout will not take a big hit. Cruise on the other hand...

It would be funnier if Tom and Ben play "The Hardly Boys".

Assuming Tom will allow Ben to make fun of him throughout the movie, it could be exactly what Cruise needs to repair his public image.

Sounds like fun besides Shawn Levy. How does that hack keep getting these big movies?

Can't say I'm too excited about the director, and I hope the comedy is kept to a miniumum... Stil, this could be a good move by Cruise - a different kind of movie and feeding off of Stiller's drawing power, which looks to be bigger than Cruise's now.

There was Risky Business, but not a whole lot else. He had his cameo in Austin Powers, but I don't think that really counts.

An EW article stated they're both really good friends and have a lot of chemistry.

That doesn't always translate well on screen. Marlon Brando and Wally Cox also were really good friends and had good chemistry...but that doesn't mean the world wanted to see them buddying up in a movie together.

Right...and sometimes it does.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson work together a lot, and they're really good friends.

I, too, think this is a pretty good idea.

...but great ideas often become Joel Schumacher films. Or in this instance, Shawn Levy films. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with the material.

I don't think Risky Business counts either.

Having grown up reading Hardy Boys, I'm not really crazy about a comedy movie about 'em. There's better ways to approach the material and this is not one of them.

Cruise is closing in on 50 and Stiller has to be 40 or older. How do either of those twits fit this role.

Well I find most of his earlier roles and movies laughable.
