Number 23 - Jim Carrey

I did a search and nothing came up so if I missed something please merge them.

Saw this on Friday night. It was pretty good and had a spooky aspect to it. I don't know if I'd call it the edge of your seat thriller, but it was definately tense in places. If you're a big fan of Carrey or like thrillers in all there form, you'll like this movie. If you're looking for the most thrilling film of 2007 you'll be disappointed. I would give it a C+ or B-.

The search sucks, have to do really specific ones to find what you're looking for.

That said, top of the second page:

I hadn't realized how low Carrey's career had sunk until I saw the trailer for this one.

I liked it, but Joel Schumacher really sucked. The direction was piss-poor. I thought David Fincher would have been perfect to direct, and a good second choice would be Christopher Nolan (Memento Nolan, not Batman Nolan). There just no tension. It wasn't scary. I didn't get into Jim Carrey's character's head, and as such when the twist turned up I just accepted it blithely rather than fell off my chair.

Remember Fight Club?

Spoiler:
Imagine how good Fincher could have made this twist.

Not to mention the rest of the film had something of a Seven-y feel. Essentially, it boils down to Schumacher's apparent inability to deal with anything with any subtlety. He just spoon-feeds you facts rather than involves you in the mystery.

I liked the film noir-ish sections inside the novel, though. I thought they were very well done. Nicely composed shots, great acting, a dark, beautiful woman and a good introduction to the torment of the number 23. I thought they were great.

I enjoyed the film quite a lot, and I could stand to see it again. I just wish they hadn't got a five-year-old to direct it.
