Looking for old Topperesque movie

It has a fifties feel, but may be older. A dog, a cat and a horse come back from heaven as people, to help... someone.... with something...

I was just a kid when I saw it, and don't remember much except that I really liked it, and the guy who used to be a dog kept munching on dog biscuits.

What the heck was this movie?

"Oh Heavenly Dog" was a loose reverse remake of this movie.

Thanks!

I saw "Oh Heavenly Dog" It was pretty pathetic. I have always liked these sorts of movies, although I have not idea what the genre would be called.

"Topper", "Mr. Gabriel", ... darn, I can think of others, but can't recall the names just now.

DVD Savant refers to them as Films Blanc (in contrast to Film Noir). You could also call them heavenly comedies. My favorite, A Matter of Life and Death (or Stairway to Heaven), is still unavailable on DVD, although it was supposed to be in the works years ago from Sony.

Ghost and Mrs. Muir sort of fits in the theme too. Love Topper, btw.

Wah! "You Never can Tell" is not available on DVD or even VHS! I thought the demand was high enough now that almost everything was available somewhere. Surely it is public domain by now.
