So why does a Viper (read: standard Cobra grunt) get to be on the poster but Destro is excluded? And why is Duke so depressed when he's got that hot babe right next to him and a nice piece of ass above him?

Can't you see? Duke's trying his best to check out Scarlett...at least I hope that's who he's trying to check out.
I actually like the poster

That certainly explains why Snake Eyes is creeping up behind Duke with a sword. But I dunno. Although the angle is right for a boobie peak, Duke looks like he's dozing off. Is he narcoleptic in this movie?

Bloody hilarious evisceration of the poster here:

This is my favorite:
It features "The Doctor," as opposed to Destro, or Zartan, or Cobra Commander, or any of the more recognizable and beloved Cobra characters... or just using no character at all. Seriously, look at him -- he looks like Dwight from The Office hooked to a respirator -- tell me that more people wouldn't want to see the movie if the poster didn't feature him at all.

This is pure gold right here. Cobra Commander recuts the trailer, around the 3 min mark. The missile flips had me

Saw the trailer before Star Trek the other day and this movie looks like shit, but damn if Baroness isn't SMOKING HOT! I loved GI Joe as a kid and welcomed the idea of a movie, but what I saw in the trailer looks horrible.

The poster isn't too bad, but like others have said, it should have Destro and CC instead of "The Doctor" and a Viper.
It does show another reason why the Joes should have more traditional uniforms in that they are dressed nearly identically to the Baroness/Viper. Like Scarlett's outfit is similar to her toy counterpart, only without the colors. They could have easily made it navy/dark gold/burgundy without it looking silly. Same goes for Ripcord and Duke who could have darkly colored fatigues.

Sommers has made exactly 1 decent movie in his career (the first The Mummy flick, wasn't great but was enjoyable when I was a kid) and counter balanced that with one of the worst movies of the '00s (Van Helsing - I've never been so annoyed watching somebody play a videogame before). His other flicks have hovered around mediocre at best.
This flick basically looks like Power Rangers at this point, and I'm not holding out much hope. That poster is absolutely terrible, the trailers have been terrible, and it just isn't instilling me with a lot of confidence.
Basically, I don't know if I can handle 2hrs 15m of this, unless Sienna Miller is in every shot.

I don't think we can blame poor trailers on Sommers, that's normally a marketing department thing, and with Paramount working heavily on Star Trek and Transformers, I'd imagine the best in that area are focusing on the larger franchises.

While putting together the trailers falls to marketing, Sommers is the maker of the chicken shit from which they are trying to make chicken salad.

Is gi joe the only recent movie in whichthe filmmakers did not respond to the criticisms or comments floating around the net? It seems like the filmmakers of iron man and watchmen were more responsive with the internet people.
Im getting the feeling that even warren beattie's dick tracy will be better. At least in that film, they stuck with the original look of each character.

With those helmets on, they look just like Spartans from Halo.
If they needed to go updated, they should have used what I call "24" Duke from the Resolute toyline:
Again, true to the classic look, but streamlined and updated enough to keep it as realistic as Jason Bourne or Jack Bauer.
