In the Marvel G.I. Joe comics, can anyone explain why Hawk looks exactly the same as Duke (Hawk replaces Duke)? At least in the toys/cartoon, Duke was the blonde, and Hawk was the brunette.

Wasnt RipCord the Joe that fought Zartan on Cobra Island at the same time Storm Shadow was attacking Cobra Island looking for his uncle's killer?

LATERALUS,
yup, it was a good storyline too. Zartan disguises himself as Ripcord and spies on the joes (he then runs around the joe base transforming into all the joes, eventually get knocked out by Sgt. Slaughter - his first appearance) and Ripcord runs around Cobra base disguised as Zartan....

Yes I remember that! If that is what they are planning for the movie i'm all for it, that would lead in to the second movie with Serpentor and Dr Mindbender!

When they first came out, the toys for Hawk and Duke both had blonde hair and Hawk wasn't as prominent a character as Duke became due to the animated series. In a later toyline, Hawk got promoted from Colonel to General and took command of GI JOE. The animation people wisely decided to recolor his hair to brown so he looked visually different, but the comics maintained his blonde hair longer, but eventually they switched him to brunette.

Regarding Cobra Commander, he apparently won't have a big role in the first film. They are planning on using him as more of a Palpatine-like character who will operate from the shadows and become more prominent in sequels. The Baroness and Destro will be the primary villains, with Storm Shadow and Zartan also appearing.

You're talking about a great storyline in issues #45-48, the first four issues of my subscription to G.I. Joe comic books as a kid.

I'm assuming in the movie, if they hopefully follow the very few good storylines in the comic, that Storm Shadow/Snake Eyes will be fighting each other throughout the movie and hopefully in the final climactic fight, Storm Shadow will reveal the truth of why he joined Cobra. G.I. Joe comic fans know why Storm Shadow joined Cobra. And hopefully, Stephen Sommers will use Issue # 27 as storyboards for that epic battle:

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't use it due to it sort of being used in Spiderman 2 with Spidey versus Doc Ock on the train...

I only remember four good storylines from the comic:

1. Snake Eyes/ Storm Shadow storylines
2. anything with Billy
3. Fred and him subbing for Cobra Commander
4. and the Hot Fuzz-type brainwashed townspeople of Springfield

It seems Sam Worthington is out of the running for the "Duke" character, due to commitments to James Cameron's "Avatar"

Now Matthew Fox, Chris Evans and Channing Tatum are in the running for the role.

Out of those 3, I think Chris Evans would be the best fit.

I think Chris Evans would make a better Flint than Duke.

Theres a rumor (that right now is being considered more than that) on a GI Joe forum I visit, that Joseph Gordon Levitt has been cast as Cobra Commander.

Can't say I'm exactly thrilled with that news.

I support this message!

And id rather see Joseph Gordon Levitt as Billy, or not involved at all. Come on CC needs an older, screwed by the government all his life, used car salesman attitude.

Cobra Commander Jr?

No, please...I understand the purpose of using young actors for sequels and in real-life military privates, but shouldn't most high-ranking officers be in their 30s/40s as in real-life military?

He would definitely make a good Billy, since this actor is good at playing a conflicted young man.

Sadly I don't believe that one is a rumor anymore.

I only grew up with the cartoon, not the comics....I was always under the assumption the Cobra Commander wasn't human, or atleast not entirely human. Anybody?

The cartoon interpretation of him being some snake alien was retarded...I love the cartoon Cobra Commander, but comic Cobra Commander has much better background.
