Name The Single Most Emotionally Moving Scene In A Movie..

Well I just watched Sophie's Choice for the first time, I have never been so disturbed by a single scene as I was by the choice scene. I'm not sure that I will ever be able to watch that scene again. I was just curious what scene from what movie rips your heart out the most?

well, the first time I ever remember bawling my eyes out at a movie was when I was about 9 or 10 and my sister had her friend over to watch the Corey Haim classic, "Lucas."

the whole end, man I covered my head with a blanket, and my sister was kinda making fun of me. Or maybe it was the whole "aww, he's crying!" but I felt embarrased about it

I'm a big, fat, sobbing baby.

The ESPN interview at the end of Jerry Maguire always gets me.

The free-the-refugees scene at the end of Three Kings.

Plenty in all of the usual suspects (Speilberg, Zwick, Zemekis). Lord of the Rings. Blah, blah, blah ... there's plenty that everyone knows about.

BradJ 02-18-07 06:42 PM

The end of Cool Runnings... and the end of "Best of the Best".

nemein 02-18-07 06:53 PM

The Ode to Joy scene in Immortal Beloved, up to and especially the standing ovation and someone having to turn him around so he can see it. It's especially touching IMHO since it's based on a real event.

"oh Captain, my Captain"

Gives me chills every time.

The entire last hour of Dancer in the Dark just kills me.

jfoobar 02-18-07 07:10 PM

The restaurant scene between Christine Lahti and Steven Hill in Running on Empty.

In Schindler's List when a german official is stamping the paperwork approving prisoners to go with Schindler to the new factory. The camera is on his hands/worktable. He asks, "Name?" and the camera pans up to "Helen Hirsch".

ryuryu2949 02-18-07 07:50 PM

Um, can there by any doubt? Kevin Costner playing catch with his Dad at the end of Field of Dreams (with the cars w/ headlights on lined up for miles in the background). Getting chills just thinking about it.

Eplicon 02-18-07 07:50 PM

The reveal of "Rosebud" in Citizen Kane.

Cal visiting his bed-ridden father in East of Eden.

Ron Kovic's homecoming in Born on the Fourth of July.

Andy and Red's reunion at the end of The Shawshank Redemption.

kms_md 02-18-07 07:57 PM

the champ's ending.

Clint Eastwood crying in Million Dollar Baby

MovieMaster11 02-18-07 09:01 PM

The end of Man on The Moon(Andy Kaufman) gets me every damn time.

Phoebie Cates in Fastimes at Ridgemont High :D

Okay, seriously...

The Color Purple - When Celie's kids arrive from Africa and meet her after so many years apart.

E.T. - When Elliott is hugging E.T. goodbye

The Iron Giant - "Superman"

Rain Man - When Charlie is saying goodbye and Raymond touches his forehead on him.

Schindler's List - When he's leaving and he realizes he could've saved more.

LotR: Return of the King - "My friends, you bow to no-one"

United 93 - Last half of the movie.

...And:

"Rudy, Rudy, Rudy..."

Two scenes came IMMEDIATELY to mind when I saw the thread title.

The final scene in United 93 and the scene at the end of Schindler's List when the survivors of the camp are paying their respects at Schindler's grave.

When Darth Sidious tells Darth Vader he (Darth Vader) was responsible for Padmé's death.

Before Sunset - the scene in the car.

JimRochester 02-18-07 10:33 PM

There was a rape scene in Prince Of Tides that bothered the hell out of me. It didn't help that I really didn't see the movie, I walked into the room just before that scene came on, I walked out shortly thereafter and have never been able to see that movie.

...kids and sister.

I watched The Color Purple some years after my own sister passed and the moment Celie is running toward Nettie in the field of those flowers really gets me sobbing.

I also love the reunion of Red and Andy in Shawshank.

The scene in Finding Neverland when they're performing Peter Pan for the dying mom in the living room, they open the doors to reveal a "real" Neverland in which the mom walks into....man that messed me up good.

My number one is The Iron Giant...

The Iron Giant: I...Fix
Hogarth: Giant?
The Iron Gian:Hogarth, you stay. I go. No following
Hogarth: I Love You

Next is Serenity...

Wash: I am a leaf on the wind - watch how I soar.

Perkinsun Dzees 02-19-07 01:54 AM

Steven Seagal's speech about the environment at the end of "On Deadly Ground". I remember seeing this in a theater and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house.

The end of "War of the Worlds" when Tom Cruise's character
Spoiler:
is reunited with his son.

In "Spider-Man" when Peter Parker discovers that the thief he let get away earlier is the same guy who went on to murder his Uncle Ben. That was one of the most powerful moments in movie history.

The Infidel 02-19-07 08:21 AM

At the end of Brother Bear, when the cub was reunited with his mom, who was killed toward the beginning of the movie. That got me.
