Movies without resolutions
 

I just caught the end of Karate Kid. I've still never seen the entire movie. The movie had the typical 80's climax then credits ending. I'm very happy that films have abandoned that approach and at least give us one scene showing the aftermath of the hero's victory. What are some other films that skip out on resolutions and go right to the credits?

Rocky, Rocky 2, Rocky 4 & Rocky Balboa.

Dodgeball should have been one of those films. But they chickened out.

In a way, the opening of Karate Kid 2 showed the ending scenes of Karate Kid 1.

I'm sure that someone out there could argue. But Altman's MASH, Nashville, and Short Cuts all come to mind.

I'm sorry but many of these are NOT movies without resolutions. What you are really talking about are movies without epilogues or denouement.

A real movie without resolution? Cache or, as some may argue, The Science of Sleep.

True. And that was one of my favorite visual gags from the entire movie. Also, we would have lost the great Sudden Death commentary from Pepper and Cotton.

i agree with Matt. these are all resolutions to the characters problems throughout the film, especially kk. why would you even want to go a step further, it wouldn't make sense. i thought the one weakness of "Return of the King" was the many, many resolutions...

from the OP's description of what he was talking about I took it to mean movies without denouements ("the aftermath of the hero's victory") but i didn't feel like correcting...

A lot films from the 70's ended on freeze-frames without any type of denouement. Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, The Deep, and Soylent Green immediately come to mind. There are several others I can't recall right now. It's like they didn't know how to end the film and it just...stopped.

Karate Kid may have been referencing a lot of older Kung-Fu flicks. I remember seeing many in my childhood that ended when the sword went through the villain (to cite one example).

Not true...Rocky Balboa has an additional scene following the final fight.

The beginning of KK2 was actually in the screenplay for KK. I wonder if it was actually filmed for KK and not edited in. Or it was never in the working script and added into KK2.
