Cherry 2000 is terrible, yet I'm compelled to watch it.
This film was terrible when it came out and it didn't age well either. For some reason though, I can't help but watch it when it's on. Same thing with Something Wild. What is it about Melanie Griffith that made her so watchable? She's one of the worst actresses ever handed a paycheck next to Tara Reid and budget porno actresses. Besides that, she's never been very attractive (although she wasn't so bad looking in Milk Money). Guess this thread is more about Melanie Griffith being crap... sorry.
Really - she never did anything to me, I just never understood how she ever got work. Big boobs? Lots of crappy actresses with big boobs out there who are actually pretty. I don't get it. |
To this day when someone says Melanie Griffith I still imagine Meg Ryan. To me, it was Meg Ryan in Working Girl and Melanie Griffith is just a stage name.
Not that they look alike, but my brain can't separate late 80's romantic comedy leads. Also, I distinctly remember liking Cherry 2000 when I'd catch in on HBO in the late 80's. I don't remember what it's about, though. |
Now here is a movie I haven't thought about in ages. Used to watch it all the time when it would end up on TV.

It was 'futuristic' semi-post-apocalyptic... some guy's female sex/wife robot malfunctions when the dishwasher explodes and he takes her memory chip and ventures into the desert that was once Vegas (now a quarantined radiation zone or something) with a tracker played by Melanie Griffith driving a 65 Mustang to go find a replacement body. They risk life and limb in search of the robot body. In the process he ends up falling for Melanie G blah blah blah...

The only time i ever found Melanie Griffith to be "kinda cute" was some movie she was in when she was younger (around 18). And i say that she was around that age because shes gets topless in the movie (which helped some, but not a whole lot).
I don't recall the name of the movie, but i know she was in it with the guy from "Revenge of the Nerds" (I can never remember his name!) and I think it was released in like 1978. |

Cherry 2000 was one of my little brother's favorite movies while we were growing up. Inevitably, we would miss most of the "robot sex toy" stuff at the beginning and really only watch it from the "Mad Max Lite" point. It was always mildly engaging.
And I agree on Melanie Griffiths - doesn't have a lot going for her. |
I met Pamela Gidley in the mid-80's when she was just a model. When she started acting, I made a point to catch the movies she was in. I saw Permanent Record, The Blue Iguana and then Cherry 2000, where she had the title role. I thought they were OK, but I lost my enthusiasm for following her career. Highway to Hell, though, is wonderful and needs to be released on DVD.
