And the Oscar for best Actor in a Motion Picture Trailer goes to...
Casey Affleck.
That trailer sent shivers down my spine everytime I saw or heard Affleck in it.
Hope the movie delivers a menacing character study like the trailer suggests.

Saw the film this evening and loved it. It clocks in at 2 hours 40 minutes, but I thought it paced itself fairly well. The performances are beyond terrific; I can definitely see a best actor nom for Casey Affleck. Brad Pitt and Sam Rockwell are also great. Not really sure how this will do at the box office, it's kind of like Terrence Malick meets Deadwood (speaking of which, series alum Garret Dillahunt is awesome in this). This definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I'd say I enjoyed this more than "3:10 to Yuma," which I saw yesterday.

The trailer doesn't do much for me but maybe in time word of mouth will change my mind.

I think it's really interesting to compare the international trailer with the domestic trailer (I'm not sure which is which, since different sites have the labelled differently). The one seems to sell it as more of an action-oriented Western - like what the studio wants - while the other has a Terence Malick-tone to it - as Dominick intended.

Couple of comments from the Venice Film Festival

Variety’s Todd McCarthy was rapturous, calling Dominik’s movie “A ravishing, magisterial, poetic epic”.
Not so, says Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter, who slates the flick, saying a “fascinating relationship gets smothered in pointlessly long takes, repetitive scenes, grim Western landscapes and mumbled, heavily accented dialogue.”

I walked out leaning more towards the first.

I enjoyed it so much that I'm seeing it for a second time on Wednesday. Hoping to pick up things I may have missed on initial viewing. I think this still may be my favorite movie of the year so far.

Saw that EW gave this a awesome review. I really want to see it.
Anyone know when it's going to be released wide?
I think right now it's only playing in Austin and New York.

saw this just a few hours ago and am definitely in the 'loved it' camp.
it just opened here in phoenix yesterday and i figured i'd better get there before it's gone. i have seen no advertisement locally and when i called my uncle (another film freak but not on the web a lot) he had not even heard of the film nor seen any adverts as well.
performances are all great - i haven't seen any mention but paul schneider was really great in his role, cinematography is beautiful and the pacing was spot on for a 160 minute movie.
i still have no idea what WB is thinking (or not thinking as the case may be) regarding promotion but this film deserves more imo.
