The movie sounds cool, but I think Brad Pitt is one of the most overrated actors out there -- every time I watch a movie of his (other than Ocean's 11), I think: "people think this guy can act?!"

Brad Pitt busy in Calgary

By LOUIS B. HOBSON, CALGARY SUN

CALGARY -- According to Sun Media sources, Brad Pitt spent a hard day at work in Calgary yesterday.

The superstar is scheduled to begin filming the western The Assassination of Jesse James on Aug. 29, in which he will play the famous outlaw.

Pitt is not just starring in The Assassination of Jesse James, but is producing it with Ridley Scott and his brother Tony Scott.

"He's here for production meetings, costume fittings and to look over the locations where the film will be shot," said a source close to the production.

The Assassination of Jesse James will film briefly in Calgary before moving up to Edmonton and then on to Winnipeg. It will return to Calgary in October to complete filming.

The source said Pitt spent much of Tuesday and yesterday horseback riding outside the city, adding that "Brad is no novice when it comes to riding but he wants to familiarize himself with the horse he'll be using in the film."

Sun Media also learned that Casey Affleck, who has been cast as Robert Ford - the man who shot Jesse James - is also spending his days familiarizing himself with his movie horse.

CASTING STILL UNDERWAY

Director Andrew Dominuk is still in the process of casting the rest of the film, which is scheduled for a 2006 release.

Garret Dillahunt, who will play Christ in the TV movie The Book of Daniel, has been cast as Charley Ford.

For people interested in being extras on the film, there will be an open casting call Sunday at Calgary's Coast Plaza hotel, 1316 33 St. N.E., between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The extras casting agency is looking for men 18 to 90 years old with facial hair, long hair or a classic cowboy appearance.

Women between 18 and 90 must be able to fit into a size-12 dress or smaller and must have hair to their shoulder blades.

Boys five to 10 years old must have shaggy hair and no braces.

Girls five to 10 years old must have hair that reaches to the middle of their back.

The casting directors will not see anyone between 11 and 17 years old.

Be prepared for long lineups and even longer waits.

A similar casting call in Edmonton for The Assassination of Jesse James attracted more than 1,000 eager applicants.

Why would anybody want to watch Brad Pitt build custom cars and motorcycles for an hour and a half? Especially when they could just watch the real Jesse James do it on cable, from the comfort of their own homes...

Looks Cool. I don't think Pitt is at all overrated. I've really dug a few of his films.

The new teaser trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures' The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford has launched in QuickTime and Windows Media format at Yahoo! Movies.

Scheduled for a September release, the film delves into the private life and public exploits of America's most notorious outlaw. As the charismatic and unpredictable Jesse James (Brad Pitt) plans his next great robbery, he wages war on his enemies, who are trying to collect the reward money – and the glory – riding on his capture. But the greatest threat to his life may ultimately come from those he trusts the most.

Directed by Andrew Dominik, the film also stars Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeremy Renner, Paul Schneider, Sam Rockwell and Zooey Deschanel.

Sounds like Dominik is an All the Real Girls fan (casting both Paul and Zooey).

The US release date of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford has been pushed back. Variety now lists it as going on wide release during the first quarter of 2007.

The website had the smallest possible trailer known to man, but after watching it...I can't wait. Looks great. Hopefully the finished product will keep the same dark atmosphere.
