Wow. Opening night it made 25% of its budget back. Not bad. So what should we expect from it through the weekend? $20MM? $25MM? Seems like word of mouth is good.

Most critics gave it a thumbs up. I would say it'll earn at least $20 million Friday - Sunday. It'll probably drop today, but still earn maybe around $3-4 million. So that could be a $30 million, 5-day start, which would be good for this series.

A feel good comeback for a movie that is universally love (the original Rocky) at Christmas time - and to top it all off, good to great reviews? Sylvester can start printing money now.

Time to fess up, we all thought it was going to be Gigli bad, right?

No, I actually believed in this one from the first time Stallone started talking about the possibility of another Rocky movie 8 or so years ago.

I knew there were some good story possibilities there and I honestly believed that Stallone's pride wouldn't let him put out a crappy movie to end the series.

Went to the Curse of the Golden Flower today in Times Square and was pretty surprised by how many people were there on a Friday afternoon...It was pretty much sold out. Maybe this bodes well for it to get a larger release, although it is pretty different than Hero and HOFD so it might not be as well received by the general public.

Guilty as charged. I'm glad to know that is being reviewed favourably and I will be seeing it during my holidays.

for people who saw Night at the Museum over Rocky Balboa. I can even see people seeing Pursuit of Happyness as that's been receiving some decent reviews and oscar mentions for Will Smith, but Night at the Fucking Museum? Stupid Americans.

Meh. Night at the Museum is a better "family" movie for the holidays so it makes sense to me, and the user reviews here are fairly positive. While there are times where I think the general audience is flawed for watching certain movies or other, this doesn't really seem like one of those times.

Not to mention Rocky is pure testosterone in the minds of many females. I'm thinking the ladies used Christmas cookies and Mrs. Claus outfits as a means of persuasion to see something else.

The ladies would rather see the Hobbit that's named Ben Stiller or the Ellen Degeneres look alike Owen Wilson over a real man like Sly Stallone?

Don't feel too bad for Rocky Balboa. With that low 24 million dollar budget, it should easily make a profit on domestic grosses alone. We Are Marshall is the real sports flop of the holiday season.

We Are Marshall tanked! Wow...that was unexpected. I am surprised Pursuit of Happyness is playing so well...I mean, it's a decent enough movie, but I felt I had already seen it from having seen the trailer...watching the actual movie was a less satisfying 2 hours than the 2min preview - which speaks volumes to me personally. Rocky on the other hand deserves every dollar it makes IMO. Night will make decent money because of families (like the similarly mediocre Happy Feet did last month)...

Rocky Balboa should easily profit and gross about $40M in the U.S. and with DVD sales in about 6 months.

I'd guess Rocky's final will be around 60-65mill. Not sure how the movies do overseas... Stallone has been more popular there since... well forever.
