30 Janus Films Belcourt Nashville TN In January New 35mm prints

Saw this great lineup and wanted to share with fellow Nashvillians. After seeing all the great shows in New York, I hope to get the same kind of love locally. hope to see you at the show.

THE BELCOURT THEATRE PRESENTS 50 YEARS OF JANUS FILMS

a touring 30-film retrospective of definitive classics from the world’s great directors

Jan. 3rd – Feb. 28th, 2007

"The Janus Films icon—the black and white image, the lettering, the two faces on the seemingly ancient coin—meant that you were going to see something special, something new, something completely different from anything you'd ever seen before." — Martin Scorsese

Throughout January and February, 2007, the Belcourt Theatre salutes the valiant efforts of Janus Films, the pioneering distributor company celebrating its golden anniversary. Formed in the late fifties, its founders began with the mandate of opening American viewers’ eyes to the then-current works of Fellini, Kurosawa, Bergman, and their contemporaries, thereby playing a key role in what would become a golden age of arthouse cinema. Janus Films and now its home video arm, the high-end Criterion Collection, are a national treasure for cinephiles across America.

All films are presented in sparkling new 35mm prints, and many will be introduced by a knowledgeable Nashville cinephile on the occasion of their first screening. Here’s your chance for an increasingly rare experience: to gain an education in world cinema while basking in the greats as they were made to be seen.

Just in time for the holidays, ticket packages on sale on-line at Tickets.Belcourt.Org or at the Belcourt Box Office.

TICKET PRICING:
Individual films are regular ticket pricing.

Programming Notes: Though exact screening times will not be announced until mid-December, each film is slated to get at least 4 screenings across 2-4 days.

This series would not be possible were it not for the help of Sarah Finklea at Janus Films and a generous grant from the Wills Foundation.

I assume that most of the major cities will get these films as well.

God I can only hope some of these come to either Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

If I lived right in a major city I would definitely see all of them on the big screen.
