Dracula: Prince of Darkness

there's a shot of the castle toward the beginning as the travellers make their way toward Transylvania or something. I think it's even a model, but there's something I've always liked about that shot. Also, the end is pretty good.

Did Christopher Lee get a full paycheck for that one since he didn't utter one word?

He had dialog but refused to speak it because it was so bad. In his autobiography, Tall. Dark and Gruesome , he tells a funny story where he was working on a film with Peter Cushing. Cushing was complaining about how few lines he had and Lee said to him, "Have you read the script? You're lucky!".

Not the best, but my favorites: Brides of Dracula/Frankenstein Created Woman

Kiss of the Vampire, although not Dracula, I think is the best vampire film Hammer made and my all-time favorite Hammer flick.

Why wasn't Christopher Lee in Brides of Dracula?

Hammer didn't ask him because they thought he would cost too much.

I loved Brides of Dracula. Thought it was one of the most entertaining of the lot. I also really liked The Vampire Lovers and Countess Dracula (though not really about any Dracula or relative) because of Ingrid Pitt. Horror of Frankenstein is great too just because it's so goofy.

Well, I'm a huge Hammer buff and there's none of these movies I really dislike, so it's hard for me to pick a favorite.

Evil of Frankenstein doesn't seem to get much praise, but I enjoyed that one a lot. And for late-period Hammer, I really liked Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell.

As far as Dracula, Brides might be my favorite, although Prince of Darkness, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave and the first one are all about equal and right up there for me.

Speaking of Christopher Lee's dissatisfaction with Prince of Darkness, on the commentary track (or maybe the home movies), when they show the part at the end where Dracula was frantically looking around for a way to get off the ice right before he went under, Lee says "Yes, I think I was actually looking for my agent at that point."
