Black Snake Moan
I saw the trailer for this the other day at Jackass 2 (I think). I thought it looked pretty interesting. Anyone know much about this besides what is in the trailer and it's Samuel L. Jackson in another movie with 'snake' in the title. Hopefully this one will do better. It looks a lot better to me.
Tagline: Everything is hotter down south. Plot Outline: A God-fearing bluesman (Jackson) takes to a wild young woman (Ricci) who, as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, looks everywhere for love, never quite finding it. Trailer is at http://www.moanmovie.com/ (I tried the search feature, but couldn't find anything, sorry if this is a repost) |
Yeah I'm interested in this one. This was also one of the more unique trailers I've seen recently (It seemed like they only showed 3 scenes from the entire movie!)
Never been a big fan of Ricci (As far as the "hot" department goes) but...Whoa. She surprised me in some of those shots! We'll see if Craig Brewer's winning streak can continue. |
yeah, she sure did. i don't know a lot of her works, but i want to see prozac nation. it also looks like she is in samuel l's other movie, home of the brave that is coming out too.

Theres an article about in the September issue of Esquire.

The audience I was with was laughing their asses off. IMDB tells me its a Drama/Romance. Either way, its cool to see a trailer something fairly original. I'll see what the reviews say.
|
I saw the trailer in front of Snakes on a Plane. Everyone was laughing that Sam Jackson only does movies with Snake in the title now.
|
Craig Brewer is enough to get me to see this. I was a big fan of Hustle & Flow and can't wait to see how he does this time out. Harry at AICN had a review up of the film a few weeks ago...just skimmed it, but he seemed to love it (like he did Hustle) which fares well (yeah, normally he's full of shit but on H&F we see eye to eye, so hopefully the same will hold true for BSM).
I'm just ticked we have to wait until Februrary to see this... MATT |
duder - i realized that it was a make your own trailer thing after i posted the link.

Has this trailer hit the net yet? I still have yet to see it.

|
I heard it's pretty good.
|
Saw a trailer for this finally at Smoking Aces...Looks interesting to say the least, and if anything, might be something different.
|
Trailer's on the site. Go to menu, then video.

I saw this yesterday and was very surprised. This is not an exploitation movie, despite the comic-book/pulp novel type movie poster, it's not a movie with tons of sex (although there is some).
It's an interesting, sometimes quiet character study of two broken people dealing with loneliness, loss, and acceptance. It reminded me a lot of You Can Count on Me in the way that it mixed a lot of elements into something that was neither depressing nor uplifting, which made it seem very true to life. Some parts of Black Snake Moan really do contain a lot of exploitation/shock value: Spoiler:
All things that you might surmise from the trailer. But the trailer itself is only about the first half of the movie. It's a great character study and if this was done without Ricci, Jackson and Brewer, and marketed differently, it would be one of those indie nuggets that you love discovering. This movie is a lot more Station Agent than it is Secretary. Very good, very surprising, and not nearly as lurid in theme as the marketing would suggest. |

breadlymoore - I have to agree with you. There is character growth/redemption but it's not the main focus of the movie. I enjoyed it quite a bit, Sam L is on his game here, but I didn't care for the ending at all.

Spoiler:
after all. |
I saw this trailer this weekend. I'm mildly interested, but I can't get over how different Christina Ricci looks.
