John Cameron Mitchell's 'Shortbus' trailer

Looks interesting.....

the film is the opening night film at the Washington DC Reel Affirmation Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in Mid October.

Numanoid 09-23-06 11:40 PM

I'm willing to bet that my girlfriend will drag me to the fine arts theater to see this. That's cool with me...looks intriguing.

SPiRAL 09-24-06 03:40 AM

Go to the Shortbus website and watch the un-cut trailer. I'm pretty sure Numaniod will want to see it after that.

DonnachaOne 09-24-06 03:56 AM

Heh. I love Mitchell's spiel in the first half of the trailer. The film looks visually interesting and creative, I hope the rest lives up to it. Also, does that seem like a spoiler in the end?

Supermallet 09-24-06 07:29 AM

I'm a huge Hedhead so this one is a no-brainer for me.

splattii 09-24-06 10:36 AM

I saw this at the Toronto Film Festival. It's pretty graphic, I'm assuming it'll get an X at least. There are ejaculation scenes, penetration and the whole lot. Here's a review we've put up, along with 25 other films from the Festival last week;

yet oddly, all the explicit sex scenes in 9 Songs (a film with equal notority, but largely negative reviews) couldn't get people to see that film.

Heh, I've considered renting 9 Songs because of a few of the bands featured in it and skipping over the sex scenes.

Did Mitchell direct the Bright Eyes music video "First Day of My Life" last year? I think he did, and that is the first i've seen from him since Hedwig.

actually the music is the highlight of the film - Super Furry Animals

however how the film is shot, the whole DV filmed aspect is grating notably during the concert footage.

riley_dude 09-27-06 12:08 AM

Certainly looks interesting.

SPiRAL 09-27-06 01:54 AM

I'm going to a screening tuesday in West Hollywood. I heard JCM is going to be there, should be a cool night.

I liked "9 Songs" more for the cool bands than the sex.

I saw the trailer for "Shortbus" at the local art house before "Strangers with Candy". Looks good.

Interestingly, it will be release without a rating.

at least? There has never been a rating higher than "X", except for fake ratings made up by the porn industry.

The "X" rating has not existed as an MPAA rating for about 20 years now, unless you mean NC-17.

Caught this at the Vancouver Int'l Film Festival

I personally think this is one of the funniest films of the year.

Spoiler:
The introduction of the characters features a montage of their sexual acts which, in full detail, shows cunnilingus, self-fellatio, masturbation, BDSM, etc.

A warning to some of the more conservative members in this forum who may think of catching it, there is quite a bit of homosexual sex scenes which may offend your religious beliefs.

Buford T Pusser 10-07-06 12:28 AM

Spoiler:
Just read a review about it starting w/the guy blowing himself-self bukkake.

and cum shot on face - whaaa! - I don't get the sense that the majority of straight folk/couples would like some of the more explicit gay sex scenes like the guy threesome scene which is downright hysterical

all in all a very entertaining movie.

al_bundy 10-13-06 06:01 PM

i can think of a few countries that won't allow this movie to be played

Spoiler:
Yeah, the 3 way scene was funny. " You've never had anyone sing the star spangled banner in your asshole ? "

dpz301 10-15-06 07:29 PM

i'll probably have to catch this on dvd when it makes it there.

Julie Walker 10-15-06 09:57 PM

Hmm,this opens up at the Uptown this Friday. I wonder if I should check it out? I don't know much about it(other than something about real sex + relationships and such),but I loved Hedwig and it could be interesting.

but I really don't think you could fairly compare this film to Hedwig which is a full-on musical... except... well, you'll see.

Julie Walker 10-17-06 09:45 PM

Well what I meant was JCM turned out a good entertaining well made film. So maybe he'll be a decent filmmaker with other film ventures if we're lucky?
