$1M is a pittance compared to the whole budget. Doesn't it cost about that much to run a 30 second ad ONCE during primetime TV? A Super Bowl ad is about $5M now to air just once. For $1M, you make your star happy and he will happily tweet, Instagram and Facebook all day directly to his fans.
Indeed. I remember when they leaked the Sony emails a couple of year ago they said that they had paid Kevin Hart like 6-7 million dollars for social media promotion and I would think that The Rock is the bigger star nowadays. If all he wants is 1 million to promote on instagram that is a bargain.

That whole concept is nuts to me. I just always assumed that doing the promotional stuff was an expected part of your services when they hired you as an actor. Good for them if they can get it.

I think they're contracted to do "normal" press i.e. press junkets, talk shows and magazine interviews. Nowadays, social media is a whole other beast that the studios have been slow on keeping up with. I wouldn't be surprised if lesser stars are now contractually obligated to promote their projects on social media but the bigger stars like Johnson can demand extra cash.

Looks like a mashup of Jumanji and the Pirates series. The Rock has had a good record with these family action movies, so I’m in. And it never hurts to see Emily Blunt, even though she’s doing her best Rachel Weiss Mummy impression.

Maybe I'm crazy, but that looks kind of fun.
And of course they had to use CCR's "Run Through The Jungle" . They already used GnR's "Welcome to the Jungle" in the Jumanji sequel, also starring Duane Johnson.
