Fast times at ridgemont high is a great movie but I don't see how you can place it before dazed and confused. Dazed should be #2 if not #1.......breakfast club is just more of a household name i guess.

Better off Dead
Pump Up The Volume
Some Kind of Wonderful
Weird Science
Johnny Be Good
Edward Scissorhands (debatable)
One Crazy Summer (debatable)

Those don't make it?

The exclusion of The Blackboard Jungle from this list makes it nothing but a joke.

A few other films I would have liked to have seen here include the largely forgotten but insane Lord Love a Duck, The Chocolate War, Three O'Clock High, and one of the all-time great cult movies, Massacre at Central High.

Can't Hardly Wait doesn't even deserved to be used as toilet paper for any of those films.

One positive, though. Very surprised and happy for the inclusion of Gregory's Girl and My Bodyguard.

P.S. Come to think of it, where's Valley Girl or If...? The list is worthless.

October Sky (1999)....it didn't make EW's Top 50 but it is one of my favorites.

But you can find comfort in the fact that Just One of the Guys did!

A lot of really sad inclusions and exclusions. Hell, one of my favorite films from last year was left of...the goofy but extremely fun Sky High. No Mr. Holland's Opus. Even liked The Faculty more than a third of those flicks.

It probably gets the edge since the entire movie takes place at school.

kvrdave, good call on Pump up the Volume.

No Weird Science? That in itself makes this list horrible.

Actually now that I think about it, ahead of my "October Sky" recommendation, I'd go "out of the box" and slot the junior high school film Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) somewhere up top on any list I'd create.

I mean when I think of great high school movies, I could probably only come up wit about 10.

What's the point of making a list if it includes virtually every movie you could think of in that category?

What next, the 'top 50 War of 1812' movies?
I just realized that Weird Science isn't even in the top 50....what a joke of a list.

I was looking for Welcome to the Dollhouse before I remembered that the characters were in like ~7th grade. I would have put Rushmore and Sixteen Candles higher, but I agree with #1. I must have watched Breakfast Club 100 times when I was a kid.

edit: And yeah, Weird Science should be on that list.

"Back to the Future"?

I realize Marty is *in* high school but why is this considered a "High school movie"?

Where's License To Drive? I've only seen 17 of those on the list, but also thought of Weird Science being absent. pfffttt...

I love "My Bodyguard" The slowmotion jump when they find the part for the motorcycle, the bald guy with that messed up spot near the back of his neck.Great Movie.

Hiding Out, Three O clock High, The Principal, And offcourse what about Savage Streets. Any movie where they show Linda Blair in the bathtub with those big beautiful breasts all wet is movie gold, and hey what about Lean on me. There's a lot of shit missing.

I agree. I would have put it in the top five. I wonder if having actors clearly too old to be high school students factored in its placement.

As for Weird Science, what probably kept that off the list is that much of the film didn't take place at a high school. I think there was just a gym scene near the beginning.

Donnie Darko? Scream? Huh?

I'm sorry but any "Top 50" High School movie list that excludes The Last American Virgin, Valley Girl, Three O' Clock High, and Pump Up the Volume is complete bullshit.

The list has Can't Hardly Wait and Bring it On, but it doesn't have 10 Things I Hate About You?

I think not another teen movie should be on that list just for making fun of all of those movies.
