Killshot

John Madden's new movie "KillShot" starring Diane Lane, Thomas Jane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Mickey Rourke...executive produced by Tarantino.

Bleh. Doesn't seem like anything special. Has a History of violence feel to it, only without the good.

Mr. Salty 09-04-06 05:15 PM

It's based on a great Elmore Leonard novel, so if the script does the book any justice I'm there. Tarantino bought the rights to four Leonard novels at the same time, saving "Rum Punch" to direct for himself (with a title change to "Jackie Brown").

True_Story1011 01-16-08 01:24 AM

what happened to this movie?

Mr. Salty 01-16-08 03:11 AM

It looks like the Weinstein Co. is distributing it. IMDb is showing a May release date.

RichC2 02-20-08 09:00 AM

So this movie will have been delayed nearly 2 years by the time it comes out, never a good sign.

Though I haven't seen Killshot, the fact that the Weinsteins are involved in distributing it should really make any connections between the delays and its quality null and void. They've purchased the rights to numerous good, great and fantastic films only to inexplicably bury them for months or even years at a time. Any time there's a film festival, I cringe when they're mentioned in conjunction with the purchase of a picture...

RichC2 09-18-08 08:25 AM

November 7th now, though I wouldn't be surprised if they delay it again to try and cash-in on Mickey Rourke's potential oscar nom.

chris_sc77 10-29-08 06:19 PM

Yep. this has been moved back AGAIN to die a lonely death on Jan 23rd.

sauce07 10-30-08 09:24 AM

I was hoping this would kick ass, instead I have no confidence in it.

From the Wrestler thread:

I was trying to find the Killshot thread but no luck.

Someone in that Wrestler thread said they thought the Brothers Weinstein might be waiting for an Oscar win to expand, but 5 theaters in AZ sounds like a contractual obligation run to me.

I guess the film made an estimated $10,060 ($2,012 per screen avg) for the three days.

are there even reviews for this thing? Like..was it good? I was heavily interested in it after I saw the trailer a YEAR or so ago....

I saw a sneak preview about a year and a half ago, back when they were still contemplating a theatrical release. The version I saw didn't have Johnny Knoxville.

I actually thought it was pretty good. It's a lot darker than what most people would think of as a typical Elmore Leonard flick (Get Shorty, Jackie Brown).

Heard the Knoxville version had issues...

Torchur317 03-10-09 06:37 PM

Re: Killshot

Well the Knoxville scenes were cut awhile ago so you don't have to worry about them....
Hopefully they atleast include them on the DVD as deleted scenes....

Bourne has forever ruined DVD covers. (I'm sure it didn't originate the look but damn if it wasn't the first time I noticed it, and its onslaught of clones).

This movie hits DVD today. Very mediocre reviews.

It's coming to me on Netflix, and should be here tomorrow.

Re: Killshot

^Same here. Mine shipped from Netflix today as well. I dont even know what cut of the movie is on the disk. I read the DVDtalk review but I dont think that was made clear. IS johnny KNoxville in this version? Rosario Dawson? Rosario Dawson nudity?
In any case I hope its one of the longer versions of the film and not the 80 minute version.
Ths has such a good cast and I rad the book a few years ago and thought it looked good so I hope for good things. The DVD sounds pretty terrible though. TWC and Genius usually put out good DVD's even for stuff like Fanboys and Outlander but this was given the shaft. John Madden usually does commentary tacks and wonder why he didnt do one for this release. Its not like he didnt have 3 or 4 years to record one LOL.

Tarantino 05-26-09 11:12 AM

Re: Killshot

Is there a 120 minute version for you?

Re: Killshot

just got done watching it. all i have to say is the weinsteins are FUCKING RETARDED. this movie was better than well over half the shit that gets wide releases in theaters. the whole cast was excellent but joseph gordon-levitt stole the show. no johnny knoxville and yes rosario dawson WAS in the film but no nudity. it dragged a little in the middle but the ending was solid. i give it a 7/10.

Re: Killshot

Watched this last night and was pretty impressed with it. I remember seeing the trailer for this a long time ago and have had it in my Netflix Queue ever since.

JGL did a good job. It took me a little while to get into his character, but he pulled it off. I thought that the rest of the cast was pretty stellar too.

However, for me the trailer I saw somehow seems different to the movie. I'm not 100% sure, but maybe because it had Johnny Knoxville in it?

chris_sc77 05-28-09 10:26 AM

Re: Killshot

I liked it quite a bit also. However It did fell incomplete and it was obvious there was at least a good 20-30 minutes cut out of the movie.
I hope we get a extended version someday.

Bought this today....

Re: Killshot

I loved it, way too good to be basically direct to dvd....
Rourke & JGL were top notch in this....
Anyone notice that QT took his name off this film for being a producer....

Tarantino 05-28-09 03:31 PM

Re: Killshot

I thought it was pretty standard fare. Not worth owning, but worth a watch if you're into the crime genre or Elmore Leonard books.

Re: Killshot

I thought it was one of Rourke's best roles/characters ever....

Tarantino 05-29-09 12:39 AM

Re: Killshot

It wasn't much of an acting stretch. Really, if you played some lines from this side by side with the Wrestler, I wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference.

The character was fine, but the acting was nothing special.

Re: Killshot

I have to agree w/ Tarantino. I was very underwhelmed by the film. It started out promising, but then just switched to killing for killing's sake while tossing the story aside.

I'm wondering if they held off on the release for Mickey's Oscar run. I have a feeling this movie may have done more bad than good.

Re: Killshot

I have been waiting for an eternity for this to hit DVD. Big Tom Jane fan here and I was not disappointed. I not have the highest expectations for the film, but I exepcted something in the realm of a History of Violence. I enjoyed it, but def not a film for everyone.

I was really disappointed in this movie. With the Elmore Leonard source material, I had high hopes, but I found this to be a pretty boring movie.

thats what they were advertising the movie with. then once it kept getting pushed back no QT and no knoxville. was lame that there were no special features on the dvd and i would bet that there will never be another realese.
