The Protector starring Tony Jaa (Ong Bak) Sept. 8th
Anyone else going to be checking out Tony Jaa's 2nd film to be released in the U.S.? I loved the action in Ong Bak so I'll definitely be going to check this out.

Yup this has been out for a while now in other Region's. I believe it is known as "Tom Yum Goong". I've been waiting to see it though so I could catch it on the big screen.

Looks kinda cheesy, but Jaa's action will make it worth a viewing. He needs to be given a chance with a decent script. Hopefully this is it, but from the looks of the website, my money's on the latter.

I'm waiting to see how much they cut (I've got the R3 korean dvd) -- especially after the bizarre narration in the trailers that has nothing to do with the original plot -- but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing those fight scenes large screen. Not as many straight up stunts in this one though.

Saw the overseas cut months ago, and for once, I'm actually interested to see what changes have been made for the US version. I thought it was decent (prefer Ong Bak overall) but in need of some serious reworking. We'll see how it fares in a week or so...

Can you let me know where you got the Region 3 DVD? Are there subtitles? I saw a couple but I do not think they had English subtitles.
Thanks

Apparently the version in theaters will be a cut version, done in asociation by the director of the movie and its the french cut of the movie. Its 20 minutes shorter but subtitled, and apparently none of the fight scenes got cut thankfully.

The UK release also has a different title for the movie.

Yeah, it's out of stock at dvdfromkorea.com where I ordered mine (aka Ong Bak 2). It does have subs. Still haven't looked at the second disk though.

Ong bak 2? I've heard other's refer to it as this but in a recent interview he mentioned they were just now filming Ong Bak 2 and that was his reason for not doing a small part in the next Rush hour film.

"Jaa told us that The Weinstein Company has not asked him to tone down the violence, which is probably a good thing since they're also involved in the production of Jaa's next film, Ong Bak 2, which he will also be directing. "That's one of my new roles, in addition to starring in the film," Jaa told us. "It's going to showcase a new type of Muy Thai, which will incorporate Muy Thai and Khon, a type of traditional dancing, and there will also be new traditional weapons that will be used. In terms of the weapons that can be used, it can be sticks, spears with a sword at the end, and traditional swords, as well. There's going to be emphasis on the script, and of course, the action scenes. It's predominantly going to be filmed in Thailand, because I feel that there are a lot of really nice area in Thailand that haven't been shown in film. We're still considering using international locations, but I think it will mainly be in Thailand."
------
Unless "Sword" is going to be released in the U.S. obviously by the Weinstein's under the title "Ong Bak 2". I was just curious. It doesn't really matter, I'll see his movies no matter what the title for the most part.
