this looks great. will probably have to get it on dvd though.

Every single member of this forum (or any movie-lover anywhere for that matter) needs to see this film, whether at the theatre or DVD. I can't wait until next weekend when it shows in Irvine, CA. My gal and I have been jonesing to see it for months now...

I 100% agree, having seen Kirby's other film's this will not only be informative but equally entertaining as well.

I finally saw this film yesterday. and as Dan1boy noted I highly recommend everyone to see this.

The ending had a nice punch to it and was a great damnation of the whole MPAA/rating's process.

It was great to see snippets of previousily cut NC-17 scenes (I had kind wished there were more).

that would be great special features for the dvd. an hour of that would be great.

Even though the film firmly centered around sex and violence. The film went nowhere in terms of what other film extremes the board has had problems with.

Language has been a problem here and there. Numerous stand up comedy films have been branded with a NC-17 rating and /or cut for an R-rating.

Martin Lawrence's You So Crazy

Eddie Murphy's Raw (three times recieved X-rating, evnetually cut down to R-rating).

The filmmakers of 'The Aristocrats' didn't even bother submitting their film to the MPAA due to the extreme explicit language/material and went out unrated.

"TFNYR" - also didn't mention that the appeals process is not only a time consuming process, but is a monetary problem as well. In some cases, a smaller indie studio might not budget in the possiblity of an appeals process if said film gets a NC-17 rating, in that case, they just accept the rating, cut it, or go out unrated.

The film is really cool. I hope it does gonzo biz at the DVD level since its theatrical release was so stunted. Go. See. This. Film.

Any chance of this coming to Kansas City, we have plenty of art house theatres in town that would show it, and I wouldn't mind seeing it.

At first I got a little annoyed on how much time was spent with the private investigators, but the more we see of them, the more their case symbolizes the mystery of the MPAA. A good touch.

Like Giles said, it mostly focuses on sex-censorship in movies. But films with "inappropriate" language and "excessive" gore have also had their share of battles with the ratings board. Yet the latter doesn't appear to be have been documented in this. Still a fascinating look though!

I caught it theatrically in November last year and just bought the DVD (good deleted bit from John Waters).

There was probably a hundred different ways Dick could've handled this doc, but he focused it on sex mostly. Okay, but still really good doc. A shame it was really recognized by any awards ceremonies.

the first deleted scene with John Waters, Kevin Smith, Matt Stone was downright hysterical - it's too bad it's not within the actual film.

also, it's essential to also hear the commentary track on the DVD - it is very ensightful and continues the topic of the MPAA in dialogue form.
