Looks like SOAP will open around $30 million, very decent but not the spectacular some were hoping for.

$30 million? I think it'll be more closer to $20 mil, unless it makes a huge jump today.

yeah, there's very little chance it makes more than 22 million. Then you have to factor in that a lot of that seven million were those upfront die hard folks going to see it. So friday's number is really just 6 million. So it can end up around 18-22 by the end of the weekend.

Still a rather nice take in for a movie that had pretty much free PR and budget of $30 million before reshoots. Besides that, the movie is called Snakes on a plane. It doing anything but bombing hard would be great news.

Well if SOAP dosent bomb then hopefully the execs will start listening to the people (internet geeks) for the type of movies they want.

I think most people were pretty realistic in their expectations. As seen in the SoaP Box Office Prediction Thread, only a few people went up to $40 Million, with most people guessing in the low to mid 20's.

From the start, I always thought that SOAP would open at #1, with around 20 to 25 million. If you ask me, that's pretty solid for this type of flick. To compare, didn't Slither only open with about 10 million for the entire weekend?

When it's all said and done, we'll all be able to sit back and call SOAP a 100% success, without a doubt, no matter if you like it or not. It's going to turn a profit at the BO and it'll do great with DVD sales.

Yes, but Miami Vice had a production budget of $135 million...

SOAP will end up a far greatest success than MV.

I thik SoaP will have trouble hitting $20M this weekend. I'm thinking it will settle closer to $15M. This thing is frontloaded with a lot of the fans, and I don't think it will have the legs to carry through the weekend at its Friday pace.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, but I don't think it is going to keep this pace up over the weekend.

Well, that's the end of the Hilary Duff film career (at least without being just a co-star). Someone should have stuck with Disney.

Did anyone else notice how much Material Girls' marketing ripped off Mean Girls?

no doubt about it. Pirates 2 has overtaken some mega-huge hits, Spidey 2, Revenge of the Sith, and Spider-man in a few days. In terms of worldwide gross, I think it will pass Finding Nemo, Fellowship of the Ring, Harry Potter 2 and 4. Not sure if it will reach Jurassic Park's $914m total. Of course, adjusted for inflation, Jurassic Park is probably much, much higher.

Jurassic Park was also playing in some theatres around here almost a year later (at least six months later). With DVD, this won't ever happen again.

Yeah, soon Pirates will overtake the films you mentioned Mr Cinema It'll certainly beat Shrek 2's worldwide take, possibly make $900m. Amazing.
It'll probably pass Harry Potter 2 yeah, its already beaten 4.

Exactly. When I was a kid, I remember The Godfather playing at a theater in Las Vegas for a year. I distinctly remember reading "In it's 52nd week." Ain't gonna happen anymore.

Looks like Pirates just missed out on the record for fastest to $400mill (held by Shrek 2, in 43 days). It was the 43rd day for Pirates 2 on Friday.
