Platoon for me. We Were Soldiers would've been almost perfect without the added melodrama of the wives.

APOCALYPSE NOW just edges out FULL METAL JACKET; PLATOON is too 'dry' somehow, and fails to engage me--I find it to be one of the more overrated films of the past 30 years...

I've always been partial to Full Metal Jacket. I love how it's really two separate war films, one dealing with the stress of joining the armed forces and the other showing the dark side of combat. And Ermey's performance is one of my favorites ever.

The Green Berets. Not the Duke's best, but even a medicore John Wayne film is better than most others....

This is unacceptable, you must watch it immediately!

As for the poll......"You're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks."

Full Metal Jacket for me. It was the first Vietnam War movie I saw when I first started appreciating film. I did see Apocalypse Now first, but I was too young to truly understand it back then.

BTW, Where's The Deer Hunter on this list? *EDIT* NM, I read you're reasoning after I posted. Too bad, the Vietnam scenes in DH were impactful.

Ok, where's Rambo II on the list?

More contemporary, I would have to say We Were Soldiers.
