I think there ought to be a real 'Heart of Darkness' movie made
I have nothing against Coppola's Apocalypse Now. It is a fine film. I am a fan of period pieces and epics and I would love to see Heart of Darkness told in its original time period. I'm infinitely more interested in seeing a film about British colonialism in India than I am about the Vietnam War.

You're kidding, right?

There was one made where John Malkovich played Kurtz. I think it was a direct-to-video or cable-premiere movie or something and remains unknown and obscure for good reason.

I'm not sure what you mean but Robo loves Historical stuff about the British.
|
Actually, I heard the Malkovich version wasn't too bad.

I just mean the same story but set in India about the British imperialism that was going on at the time. I'll check out that Malkovich movie.

Indeed. It was directed by Nicolas Roeg, after all, which piques my interest.
After that, you could always go watch the 2005 King Kong. |
wasn't heart of darkness based in Africa?
edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_of_darkness so as much as you love british colonial history and India, it might be best if it was Belgian and Africa more specifically Congo. |

There definitely was a Heart of Darkness movie with Malkovich and Tim Roth. I actually watched it four years ago in my senior AP English class in high school. After thouroughly analyzing the book, I thought the movie was not only disappointing but rather boring as well. It was also definitely lacking a lot of the crucial moments from the novel to make it into a 90 minute movie. It might be a little better to watch if you haven't just finished the novel, but considering I had just read the novel a few days prior at that time the novel made a much more lasting impact.
It was a TNT movie that I know is out on VHS, but I don't think that it's out on DVD. I don't know for sure, though. |
