It was sold out when I tried to see it on Saturday night. Hopefully I'll see it tomorrow. I've been looking forward to seeing this for about a month now.

Now that this is wider and I'm assuming more people have seen it (as per Badly's thread) what did you all think. After a second viewing the film just got better...even knowing where it was heading and jokes ahead of time, you can just see them setting stuff up. Seeing this with an audience is a must. If you like it, be sure to drag your friends.

Easily one of my favourite films of 2006... and I still do plan on seeing it again soon.

This terrific film should be in a lot of theaters by now, but some stupid comic book and teen slasher movies are taking its place!!!

Way to go Hollywood once again.

Are there even any comic book and slasher movies out right now?

I was trying to figure out the same thing...I don't think there are.

Nope, there aren't (Superman Returns is pretty much gone, and the closest thing to a teen slasher is Pulse, which isn't a teen slasher.)

Little Miss Sunshine goes wide (600+ theaters) this Friday.

DaveNinja 08-15-06 11:36 AM

Little Miss Sunshine is hilarious without resorting to boner-joke humor.

woofman 08-15-06 08:36 PM

I saw this at a screening last week and it was hilarious! The audience stood up and cheered at the end. Cute movie.

Mr. Cinema 08-15-06 08:59 PM

I can't wait to see this. Thankfully it's expanding soon.

Trelach24 08-15-06 11:17 PM

GREAT movie. People were still laughing as they walked out of the theater. I really want to get everyone I know to see this movie but at the same time I don't want to oversell it. I had high expectations and it didn't disappoint but I think it could be one of those movies that's 100x better if you have no expectations and don't really even know what it is going in.

It should be nominated for best picture.

B.A. 08-16-06 06:10 AM

I have been waiting to see this for months.

Giantrobo 08-16-06 06:19 AM

Collete and Kinear have worked together before and they have good chemistry. I hope to see LMS this week.

I was hurting from laughing hard in many spots with this film. It features some really good emsemble acting, and the writing is humorous, plus the comedic touch from the direction was very entertaining, and the pacing was on the mark. This is one of those films where you actually want to know what else happens to this family when it ends. It plays that "true", and in light of what else it says about the pageants for very young girls, it's a stitch to see the reactions of the attendees and judges at Miss Little Sunshine pageant as it concludes in unexpected fashion.

I give it 3.5 stars, or a grade of B+.

Big Boy Laroux 08-19-06 09:20 PM

saw this today... I LOVED it. it was a great movie up until the end... then it became one of the best/funniest movies i've ever seen...

my only complaint, and it's a minor one:

Spoiler:
I didn't like the scene in the gas station with Frank and his grad student. seemed waaaaaaaaaaaay too coincidental

cupcake jesus 08-19-06 09:24 PM

Saw this on Friday - liked it fine. Anyone know whose face is depicted on Duane's t-shirt? Couldn't figure it out.

cheers,

-the Jesus

i had the same complaint.

but my complaints end there.

Best movie of the year so far. hands down.

johnnysd 08-20-06 02:15 AM

Ssw this today at a sold out show. I loved this movie. As a previous poster said I would like to see more of this family. The crowd I saw this with was as into and excited and enjoying this movie as much as probably any movie I have ever seen.

dvd_luver 08-20-06 02:17 PM

I would go see this today but it isn't playing anywhere near me. This may be a film that lives up to it's hype!

reubs82 08-20-06 04:23 PM

Saw this last night. Freaking hilarious. Not sure how it would hold up on subsequent viewings, but I will certainly be catching it again sometime. Will also recommend to others wholeheartedly. I really had no idea what to expect going in. Simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming, this movie had me in stitches at some points and in shock at others. Funniest movie I've seen in a long time. Get out and see it yesterday.

It looked to me like a hand drawn image of Big Brother from "1984" (the 1956 movie version). Google "big brother 1984" and see for yourself.

The Bus 08-20-06 07:35 PM

I thought this movie was just OK.

Alright, I just said that deflate some of the hype. I agree with Trelach24 and don't want to oversell it: not the funniest of the year, not the most exciting, but that doesn't mean it's not great. It's a great story of a fractured family a la Royal Tenenbaums but painted without the forced-eccentric brush of Wes Anderson (which works in his movies but would've made this one worse). It's probably the best movie about family I've seen since You Can Count on Me and it is just as tender, truthful, and heartbreaking.

Some qualms:

Spoiler:
The Grandpa corpse thing is absolutely horrid. Not because I'm offended, but it's been done before in so many ways that it didn't really add anything to it. It's the only sequence where I felt the movie fell flat on its face and it felt out of place.

The camera work is startlingly good, although you can't expect anything bad out of these former music video directors. I give it a high recommendation.

I found the scene to be really funny, but agree it felt out of place.

I saw this flick tonight, really enjoyed it. Not the funniest movie I've seen this year, but one of the most consistent movies of '06 (and consistency, more than anything, seems to be lacking these days.)

reubs82 08-20-06 09:36 PM

Actually, one of my biggest problems was
Spoiler:
Duane's being color blind. How come that wasn't figured out a lot earlier?

I'll also agree with RichC2...that was one of those "shock" scenes.

Spoiler:
Assuming you don't have a clear need for glasses/contact, how often would you even be checked?

It seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Spoiler:
Most people don't realize they're colorblind unless specifically tested for it. My neighbor is 29 and just found out a few months ago when he was applying for aviation jobs in the military. The only odd part being that it was red/green color blindness, that's more likely to be noticed in daily life than a light blue/blue one.
