OK...just came across this trailer on youtube and thought it looked pretty damn good.

Here's the official website:

Fred Roos, the original producer of Star Wars, is doing this one as well and I actually laughed out loud at the trailer.

Interested to see what happens with this.

I've been waiting for this film to come out for quite a while now, especially since it seems the film was shot nearly a year or two ago.

gryffinmaster 08-05-06 03:34 AM

That looks pretty darn promising. I'm in.

Rogue588 08-05-06 04:31 AM

I had to watch it twice cuz I couldn't place where I saw that kid before..

Dash 08-05-06 04:32 AM

This does look pretty good, to bad the chances of it comming to a theater near me is 0 to none.

mdc3000 08-05-06 09:31 AM

Wow. I had never even heard of this movie, but it is a must see for me. Looks excellent.

Why is the X-Wing toy released in the late 90's in the movie?

DRG 08-05-06 10:00 AM

Not sure I would admit to knowing that one... ;)

That's the main kid from Freaks & Geeks, is it not?

calhoun07 08-05-06 03:43 PM

Since the blog stops sometime this past April on the official site, has anybody heard the status of this one? Will it just eventually become straight to DVD?

Birrman54 08-05-06 03:44 PM

when is this in theatres? I would expect 5-25-07

filmerp 08-05-06 04:55 PM

I had emailed the director a while back asking about the release, since IMDB had down May 2006:

David--

The IMDB is notoriously inaccurate. I would bet on a release date somewhere betweeen November of 2006... and... oh... say... 5-25-07.
Thanks for your interest and please keep the faith. I promise it will be worth the wait.

Best wishes,

Patrick Read Johnson
Writer/Director

i believe that is suppose to be an actual prop from the film, not a toy.

Yeah it is, John Francis Daly.

Bcolon 08-05-06 09:11 PM

That does look pretty funny.

MahatmaPetey 08-05-06 09:30 PM

i'm adding this to my short list of movies i'm officially excited for.

dpz301 08-06-06 07:17 PM

looks pretty interesting. i'll go see it.

Here's my main problem with the film: teenagers didn't talk like that in 1977. The whole geekdom thing regarding sci-fi movies was still a good ten years away. It's like they took modern-day "sci fi geeks" and threw them back into 1977.

Still, the movie looks like fun, although it's definititly going to have a limited audience. I did enjoy the Jaws in the swimming pool bit.

Mr. Salty 08-06-06 09:22 PM

Oh, I remember plenty of sci-fi geeks from that era. "Star Trek" probably kicked it off, and you had "Dr. Who" and of course the rise of "Star Wars," followed quickly by 'Battlestar Gallactica" and "Space: 1999."

calhoun07 08-06-06 10:40 PM

Space 1999 definately predated Star Wars. It came on the heels of Star Trek. And Dr. Who predated Star Trek by about 5 years. And for sci fi TV, I would say in America, maybe Lost in Space started it all, with shows like Outer Limits and Time Tunnel adding to early geekdom.

Oh come on now, that's just not true. Who do you think had Star Trek conventions or played "Star Trek" on minicomputers in the '70s? Followed Doctor Who in the '70s on PBS? Star Wars was like an atomic bomb for sci-fi geekdom, but it certainly existed before that.

By the way, is it sad that I knew what the date was before I clicked on the thread?

Chrisedge 08-07-06 04:16 PM

This is the movie that has been coming out for at least 3-4 years.

Gary Kurtz produced Star Wars. Fred Roos did Lost in Translation (of the two films named in the trailer), though I think he helped on the casting of SW.

Not at all. What a glorious day it was. On top of it being my birthday, I had the most amazing theater experience of my life.
