The Weekend Classics Matinee Series

Starting on Friday, August 4th with a new print of Carol Reed's (The Third Man) 1947 classic THE FALLEN IDOL, the Belcourt will begin a weekly series of classic matinees to play Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 11:30am. Crossing genres from noir, drama, musical, western, modern classics and everything in between, Nashville will now have a constant schedule of classic 35mm films on the big screen in the format in which they were originally intended to be viewed.
Series begins August 4th, 2006

The following is the schedule for the inaugural two-month period:

August 4-6 THE FALLEN IDOL (1947)
Was it a murder or accident in a diplomat's residence?

August 11-13 GONE WITH THE WIND (1939)
Frankly, my dear, your TV won't do this justice.

August 18-20 ARMY OF SHADOWS (1969)
Melville's tale of French Resistance in a new 35mm print

August 25-27 THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY (1966)
Sergio Leone's restored western classic

Sept. 1-3 RESERVOIR DOGS (1992)
In conjunction with the Sundance Institute Retrospective series. Leave the kids at home.

Sept. 8-10 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968)
Man vs. Machine in this sci-fi classic from Stanley Kubrick

Sept. 15-17 CASABLANCA (1942)
Play it again, Sam

Sept. 22-24 MAJOR DUNDEE - fully restored version (1965/2005)
Sam Peckinpah's Civil War tale starring Charlton Heston and Richard Harris

Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 SWING TIME (1936)
Song and dance with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers
